New World’s Record Established George Meyers of Lake James esta}lished a new world's record with his 16-Johnson seahorse powered with an outboard motor at the third annual Lake Wawasee regatta Friday when he drove the boat over a five mile course in :38.01. Meyers’ performance was one of the outstanding features of the program today. ; : Thursday’s outboard motor boat races were full of thrills, the large waves playing -havoec with the tiny crafts. Two of the shells were wreck ed by large waves one of the boats sinking. Another outhoard shell lost its motor during the races. .

Attend Family Reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crago and daughters Lucile and Helen of Elkhary township attended the twelfth-annual reunich of the Randall family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Finley Piper, five miles south and one mile west of Kimmell a week ago Sunday. There were close to one hundred piesent. The next annual reunion will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crago at Spring Branch farm nean Wawaka the second Sunday in August 1930. . .

Forced Landing in (Corn Field | Two Detroit men narrowly escaped death when the plane in which they were riding from their home town to Indianapolis was forced down in a corn field five miles south of Decatuy Wednesday evening. The men are A. C. and H. C. White. The plane an Eagle Rock cut a wide path 100 feet long through the corn which was six feet high. The engine went dead forcing the landing. :

Hurt in Wreck.

While Henry Clason of East Goshen was driving a truck Thursday evening from Fort Wayne to Goshen he skidded off the side of the road near Wolf Lake doing considerable damage to the car and himself suffering numerous deep cuts-and bruises. No hones were broken. Mr. Clason had an assistant Jess Metzge rwith him and he also was cut severely about the face.

In 1878 fifty-one years ago Louie Lowe operated a clothing store where Carney’s have been located. In .the year named James Ballah purchased a suit of clothes from Mr. Lowe which shows littlew ear. Mr. Ballah wore the suit downtown Friday and it looked like new. i

Bortner former -assistant county surveyor in Noble county who was arrested by County Highway Officer Tom Schrock several weeks ago on charge of driving while intoxicated was grani ed change of venue from Judge Cleil E. Firestone in city court at Goshen. Bortner who has been at liberty under $l,OOO bond since his plea of not guilty will face George R. Harper as special judge. The date of the trial ‘has not been set. Birds Were Bald But Not Eagles

The South Bend city zoo wanted 3 pair of bald eagles so William Burkus and Leo Deka’Wurth and brought in a pair of birds \they got from the McMillan farm/ near ~Barron Lake, Mich. . _ McMillian was fiilig‘d $l3 for violating the federal law against capturing eagles and it looked as though the zoo must look elsewhere for its feathered monarchs. ' ‘Today however McMillan® had his money back. A bird authority looked at the pair. They were bald enough he assured the captor, thé game warden and zoo keeper but they were bhald buzzards and not eagles.

Goshen Child Injured by Aute,

- Thomas Gibson six years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gibson of Goshen was seriously injured at Mishawaka last Tuesday when he was struck by an automobile driven by Mrs. S. S. Sox of Mishawaka. The child sustained a fracture of one leg and a concusion of the brain, and did not regain consciousness until Thursday leveniug. . : ' S

Ruling on Teachers’ Qath

In an opinion handed down by James M. Odgen attorney-general the oath of allegiance for school teachers provided in the law recently enacted by the general assembly may be administered by “anyone authorized to administer an oath generally to the public.” The opinion was requested by Roy P. Wisehart state superintendent of public instruction who asky ed the attorney general whether superintendents may legally administer the oath and if hotary publics possessed that power.
