Willis M. Kinnison.
-Born near Ligonier, Indiana. June 16,1854 and died at Garden City 'l{u_‘nsas June 4, 1929. He received his education in the common schools of his commaunity and lived in Noble county Indiana until about 1882 when he went to Arizbna where he operated a l'arg'el' cattle ranch which he sold in 1887, - Went back to Ligonier and was unit%ml in marriage with May I. ‘Kimmell July 7 1887. The .yvoung people came i(lirewfiy to Garden (City where the_\" have lived ever since. About 1891 he |u’n}_-n;:ed in the seed and grain busi[ness with the late I. N. Mcßeth and :develnpe(l the largest alfalfa seed business dn the state . . 2 { In 1502 he was elected to the legislluturo from the 119th district and Lserved two terms with very marked !uhilil_v. but refused to serve longer !ulthuugh urged many times to do so. ‘l)urin_&: these four _veur‘s' service to ltlw smw'_hv' made many staunch ’l'riends which have lasted through life. ' After the death of his partner Mr. | Mcßeth, in 1907 Mr. Kinnison ¢losed {the seed bhusiness and lat{fr entered !the hzmking business, serving as diirector -and president of the Garden ‘(‘it_\’ Natioenal Bank® until his retire-‘me-m about 1921 He was a m’eml)ey tot the Masonic. lodge the chapter the lu‘<)mmamii>r,\' was® a member of the |Shrine and also of the .\]o(lernp\\'()od- | men. ' | Mr. I.\'i‘nnisnn was the son of Arch i*,"i“”'*"’” and Charlotte Wood Kinnison \;;;m(jx was the. voungest of four sons, [George W., of Goshen, Indiana;, James [of Ligonier and E. W. of St. Joseph, '.\’lichigun and Willis M. all of whom 1;11‘9 living except Willis. o l Burial will be at Oak Park cemetery Ligonier Indiana. - L ; Let us pause a moment from the affairs of our daily life and allow our ‘thoughts to dwell upon our departed friend and neighbor remembering the many pleasant associations with him in the years that have gone, treasurli"ug the memories of his ever pleasant ;smi]e. the kindly light in his eye, and the. sincere and friendly clasp of his lhaml that was extended to us in our ijoys ‘and in our sorrows, and thank lthat kind providence that bestowed iupon so many of us the preivilege to known and love and respect him as a friend and companion. . . It does not seem possible that e has ’gone from us for all time, and that Ithé friendly light has_ left his eyes ‘but only as though he has passed Into another room closing the door behind him and that he will again step forth to greet us at the dawning of another bright and beautiful morning. As a citizen Mr. Kinnisen proved on many occasions his unselfish devotion to the community taking an active part in all those tliings that make for a hetter and more worthy life. In all thesé, things his hand and his purse. were freely extended. He was singularly free of jealousy or littlenes of mind, for it was always a pleasure to him to see his neighbors and friends succeed in their efforts. As a friend he was sincere as a man taking his part in public affairs he ‘was faithful to the trust’ imposed in him, as 'a staunch supporter of law and order, and in all those things that tend to uplift the moral satnding of the community he was ever steadfast, as a man who loved his home and the companion of his vouth and advancing vears, he has set a worthy example. No better monument. can be erected to his memory, than the arch that his own has reared, personal honor, loyalty to friends and dommunity, a reverence for the better things o life, morality, temperance in all things and as the keystone of that arch integrity. We have lost a friend, but there is within us that ever glowing hope that we shall again meet our friend in that beautiful land where the sun is ever shining and ‘the rear of the tempest has lulled. 5 : “We must all die! : . All leave ourselves, it matters not where, when , Wor how, so we die well; and can Ithat this man that does so : Need lamentation for him?”
