Merchants Swindled. 1 Police have found mno trace of a couple who used high school girls as{ their tools for the victimizing of Sturgls merchants with a fake advertising scheme. o The couple who are said to have worked the same swindle in Cold‘water, - Adrain snd Hillsdale stated that they were advance agents for an opera company which would bring {ts rarely talented artists to Sturgis All they asked was the privilege of gacuring ads for the program of the event. Two high school girls were secured to do the soliciting and coilect the fees. DMore than §lOO was ‘collected and sent to a Grand Rapids address. The couple has disaplpoared. . ' . ,
Hunter Meets Death
A bird dog's aversion to riding in an automobile resulted in the death of Frank Sims 42 of Qaktown it was revealed at an inquest held by Dorman E. Beckes Knox county coroner. As Sims started to grab. the dog when it tried to leap from an auiomobile he caused a shotgun to fall in such a manner that it was discharged entire loading striking Sims in the righ shoulder. He died hefore medical aid could be reached. '

Warren J. Deems Hurt.
Warren J. Deems of Laud sustained injurics in an automobile accident on Tuesday morning when the car in which he was driving alone on his way to Columbia City to put up sale bills went into the ditech. The machine did- not upset and was slightly damaged. AMr. Deems was takep to a physician and it was found that two small arteries were servered. These werg tlied off and four stitches were required to close a wound extending for two inches above the left eve.
(Chicken Thief is Arrested.
Ralph Rivett, 24, who made his home with Dr. Webster of South Whitley for several years, is in jail in Columbia City on a charge of chicken stealing. o
~ The lad went to the Dr. Webster chicken coop several times. He sold two bunches of chickens to Lincoln L.ee, one to the poultry house across the river at South Whitley, and sold four sacks of corn to the elevator. All of these articles were stolen.
Fractured Hip.
John Wingard had the misfortune of breaking his right hip Tuesday morning when he 'was getting out ofr hed and stepped on a rug that slipped from under him letting him fall to the floor at his home iu Syracuse. He was taken to the Elkhart hospital where everything iz being done to reduce the fracturce. He had been resting comfortably at the hospital.

Florence Amderson, 30, Fairmont, was in a serious condition at a hospltal {n Marion from injuries and exposure as a result of an automobile accident near there. ; For five hours ‘Mrs. Anderson was pinned beneath the wreckage of her machine in which she was riding alone. A group of men enroute the Marjon finally discovered her.
Fire Destroys Home
Teh home of Willlam Wagner at Kendallville was practically destroyed by fire Thursday. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen where an oil lamp was hurning. ~The tapnily escaped without injury. One room oOpn the east side of the house was saved from destruction.

Prayers of Two Sisters Alswered. The prayers of two aged sisters, who had been ill for some time at Vistula, were answered when death claimed beth within® twelve hours.
