Charge Interference.
- Charges of “high governmental interference” (to prevent broadcasting of the Helane Mont., address of Gov. Alfred E. Smith were made at Los Angeles, Calif.,, by democratic leaders after thousands of southern California residents listened at their radios in vain to hear the speech. P. M. Abbott, president of the Los Angeles Smith for President league, charged republican officials had prevented a broadcast of the address to balk Smith’s denunciation of the oil scandals. i :
Two Los Angeles stations from which it was understood the ‘Helena speech would be sent out, announced they knew nothing of the arrangement. They were swamped with calls concerning their failure to relay Gov. Smith’s talk in Montana.. : . e | Bird Builds Nest on Ear of Corn. While cutting corn, George' Quinn, residing in the northwest part of the county, discovered a bird’s nest on a freakish ear of corn. The corn had three sheots toward the end of the car -and on this small fan-like table the bird built her nest. Mr. Quinn had never seen a nest like it. The material seemed to be a sort of lint, even like a hornet's nest. In the nest were the baby birds with only down covering their ‘tender bodies = Mr. Quinn left the stalk standing in hopes he may be able to identify the mother hird, < !
Rally Day at Richyilie.
The Richville Sunday school will observe rally day next Sunday, Sept. 30th, following the Sunday school hour. A report by Mr. Larimer, president of the Clinton-Benton District Council of Religious Education, will be one of the features of the program. - Other numbers on the program are a talk by the pastor of the church and special music by the orchestra. llveryone is ‘invited.
Slashes Hand With Knife.
While trimming a grape arbor at Rome City, Hugh ‘Dare of Columbia City, accidentally cut a deep gash in his left wrist with the knife he was using. A large artery was severed and bled profusely. Mr. Dare -wasg driven by his wife to Wolcottville where the injury was dressed.
Steal Furs.
The sheriff at Plymouth is spending a lot of effort trying to locate komeone, who, preparing for cold weather, stole furs valued at $125.00 irom the Ed Turner store at Argos.

WOL(?O’[‘TVILLE FAR«.\IE!{ DIES. Heart Trouble Fatal to (. E. Shanower, While David Hanes Dies at Richmond Sanitorum. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. for Clinton E. Shanower, who died Sunday at his home norih of Wolcottville, Death was due to heart trouble. He was 77 years old. Surviving besides the wife are three daughters. i David Hanes, 67, farmer residing two miles northeast of Wolcottville, died at Richmond. Surviving are the widow and two children.
Hoover Plans Tour.
A rather strenuous schedule has been arranged for Herbert Hoover on his one-day excursion into the South early next month, during which he will visit two cities and pass through half a dozen others in the Tennessee and Virginia mountains by train or automobile. : The republican presidential candidate will make two speeches, the prin cipal one at Elizabethtown, Tenn., in mid-afternoon on OCctober 10th and the other at Johnson City, Tenn., late in the day just before he boards his private train for the overnight return to Washington.
J. Nels Bobeck.
John Nels Bobeck, aged 81 years, passed away at his home south w»f Richville church, following a prolonged illness from anemia was buried today. He leaves besides his wife, two sons, William of Ligonier and :’Claude of Syracuse; two daughters, Mrs. Fannie Larson of Southeast of ’Ligonier' and Tllie at home. Besides ;these'he leaves 11 grandchildren and ;‘6 great grandchildren. One daughter Mrs. Freda Veorhes, preceded him in death about fifteen years ago.
Golden Rule Sunday.
i Dr. William Lowe Bryan, president of Indiana university, and Golden kßule chairman of the state of Indiana, announces Sunday, December 2nd, as %Internationat Golden Rule Sunday. On that day in thousands of Indiana homes, Golden Rule dinners will be partaken of and in the church and Sunday school services, addresses and programs calling for the observance of the day will be in order.
Young People's (onference.
- Elkhart is to,be the mecca for several hundred young people of Indiana next month when that city entertains the .Northern State Youngs Peoples’ conference of the Indiana Council of Religious Education on the 12, 13 and 14th of October. : These conferences usually bring from 1200 to 1500 young people of high school age or slightly older into annual meeting.
Grand Jury to Investigate Death.
The death of Mrs. Blanche Manis, 35, who was found fatally injured Saturday night along a highway eight miles east of Tipton, will be investigated by a special grand jury called to meet next Thursday. Lester Manis 40, husband of the woman, told officers his wife jumped from the automobile in which they were riding. They had quarreled, he said. Manis is under arrest.
