Inwa Publisher F¥inds His Novel tden Wins Many From G, O. P Ranks In This Campaign ... An enterprising editor of a newspraper in Rolfe, lowa has hil uvon a novel scheme to bring Republican voters into Governor Smith’s can:p. Marion Bruce editor of the Rolfe Arrow converted ten out of a dozen Republicans that he approached on the streets of Rolfe on his firs: trip cut. It took him but a few minutes, farmers but a lawyer, a dentist a barber a newspaperman a butcher a druggist, a clerk and three farmers. Here is how he worked it.
He had printed pledge cars to be exchanged between two Republicans. These are the size of ordinary calling cards, and have places for two signatures on them: one for the circulator and one for the name to be enrolled. They read: g “Smith Republican Club.” _“Believing that the Republican party needs ‘cleaning’ instead of whitewashing for its scandalous conduct in office ‘and for lack of sympathy for the ordinary man we do mulually agree to go to the polls and vote for LAI Smith for president.”
(Mr. Bruce armed with ‘his cards approaches (Republicans and says: “P’ll ‘sign if you will,” His success has been spectacular. he reports to Democratic National ileadquarters. ; : “They say that there is a farm revolt in Iowa” he writes “but there are more than farmers revolting. I believe that this is a good idea because it works in spite of the fact that this is normally a Republican stronghold.” -
