Farm House Burns A large two story frame house on the farm owned by Mrs. Adam Kiefer six miles west of Wakarusa was completely destroyed by fire Tuesday morning causing a loss estimated at $5,000. The fire is believed to have been started from a chimney.

quiry, is unknown of the defendant Odle McFarren; that the names of the defendants are unknown and that they are bhelieved to be non-residents of the State of Indiana sued in this action by the foliowing names -and de;;ignattnns, to-wit: - “the unknown wife of Odle McFarren whose name is unknown to plaintiff; the unknown widow, the unknown children, des, cendants and heirs, surviving spouse, creditors and administrators of the estate, devisees, legatees, trusteey and executors of the last will and testament, successors in interest and assigns, respectively, of Odle McFar; ren, deceased, the names of all ofl whom are unknown to plaintiff”; that said action as to the defendants herein named is for the purpose of quiets ing title to real estate in the State of Indiana; that a cause of action exists against all of said defendants; that all of said defendants are necessary parties to said action and that they the bhelieved to be non-residents of the State of Indiana.

The following real estate in Noble County, State of Indiana, is described in said complaint, to-wit: all that part of the southwest quartéer of the northwest quarter of section twenty three, township thirty four north, range eight east, lying south of the Albion and Cromwell road, excepting therefrom thirteen acres in a square form out of the southwest .corner thereof, leaving in the above description about seventeen acres of land; also thirteen acres in a square form out of the southwest corner of said -southwest quarter of the northwest quarter of said section, township and range, excepting five and one-haif acres off of the north end thereof, and excepting also four acres in a square form out of the southwest. corner thereof; also comniencing at the southeast corner of the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of section twenty two, township thirtyi four north, range ¢ight east, running from - thence south on the section line to the Cromwell and Albion road, thence west eighteen feet, thence north on a line parallel with the section line to a point due west of the placq of beginning, thence east to the placd of beginning; also five acres out of the southwest corner of that part of the west half of the northwest quars ter of section twenty three, township and range aforesaid, lying north of said road, said five acres to be bound, ed on the west by the section line, on the south by said highway, on the east by a line running straight north and south, and on the north by a line running straight east and west, said north line being just far enough north to take in the orchard on saig west half north of said road; alsd twenty-five feet off of the north side of lot number sixty nine in the original plat of the town, now city of Ligonier excepting therefrom sixty seet off of the west end thereof. This action is instituted and prosecuted by said plaintiff for the purpose of quieting his title and the titles of his-co-owners to the real esi tate above described as against ald demands, claims and claimants whats soever, '

' Murdered Man Unknown. Police appealed to Cincinnati O, authorities for aid in establishing the identity of an alleged murdered man whose body was found in White River near Indianapolis. The victim had been slashed with a knife twice across the face and once across the throat police said. » Police believed the man was a former or present resident of Cincinnati. A billfold in his pocket bore the name of a Cincinnati tailoring firm and &« label inside a coat pocket was that of another Cincinnati tailor,

To Have (Crime Wave Jury Probe Investigation into the $lOO,OOO explosion of the Traugott clothing store at Indianapolis on August 26 - was begun today by the Marion county grand jury. Co-incidentally with the launching of the inquiry into the explosion which wrecked the building the grand jury made it known that it intends to undertake a crime wave investigation similar to that in Philadelphia as soon as the blast and routine matters are cleared. ‘

Mrs., Catherine A. Barney Dies

Mrs. Catherine A. Barney 58 years old died Sunday afterncon at the home of her daughter Mrs. Ellen Barney Weaver in Elkhart of cancer. She was the widow of Dr. Lee M. Barney who died in 1919. :

Governor Alfred E. Smith took off his brown derby and waved the West a WNew York welcome at Omaha. ;Omaha in the heart of the farm country to which Smith will appeal waved %bafck and gave the democratic candidate a characteristic “Howdy, Stranger” Throngs greeted him at the station, a crowd curious and eager to see this" man who rose from the New York East Side Smith has seen this city before but never like he saw it today. Thieves Seale Roofs.

Three business houses were broken into ay Fort Wayne and loot valued at $4OO stolen. The bandits stole $224 from the Dr. H. H. Rogers optical shop and $l7O from the Martha Washington candy shop. They also broke into the Randall meat market and grocery, but were. apparently frightened away as nothing was stelen there. The robbers' scaled the roofs of the buildings to gain entrance., .

‘ Saved From Moh Violenee Ernest Lawson 18 was in Henry county jail Tuesday at Newcastle after being saved from violence at the hands of 300 farmers enraged -because the youth is alleged to have attacked a 4-year-old girl. ]

The farmers who had been attending a public sale surrounded Lawson in a corn field four miles esst of there but officers arrived and arrested him before the posse could close jin. Lawson was slightly = wounded while being pursued.

Little Kirl is Killed ; " Elizabeth Marie Myers fwol year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Myers.of Goshen was almost instantly killed at 1:45 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when it is believed she ran inte the: side of a Reo truck owned by Jerry Klase and driven' by Rred Arnold also of that city. -

The child died 5 minutes after the accident. Her neck was broken Absence of bruises from the body led officials to believe the child ran inta the truck.
