Ernest Smith, 20 blind negro, won his freedom when arrested on a charge of begging on the streets at Gary by demonstrating to police his ability to tell the different makes of automobiles by touch and hearing. After the demonstration, police contributed to a fund to pay Smith’s fare to Chicago. :
Bailey Family Reunion.
The ninth annual reunion of the Bailey family was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Bailey, near Dukes bridge, sixty-one guests being present, coming from Hammond, Mishawaka, Bristol, / Millersburg, Elkhart, Topeka, Ligonier, Brimfield. An especially fine dinner at the noon hour and a most enjoytruck at Fort Wayne. Her leg was union occurs in Hammond.
Garrett Girl Injured.
Margaret Stranger, 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stranger of Garrett, was injured Sun day afternoon, when she ran into the side of a ‘Furnas Ice Cream company truck at Fort Wayne. Her lef was fractured and she was bruised.
Bold Robbery.
Between $75 and $lOO in cash was taken from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Feagler at Auburn in a bold daylight robbery. The thief was a woman, described as about 34 years of age. .

Come now the plaintiff by Bothweil & Vanderford,-his attorneys, and files his complaint herein together with the affidavit of a competent person that the residence, upon diligent inquiry, is unknown of the defendant Odle McFarren;. that the names of the defendants are unknown and that they are believed to be non-residents of the State of Indiana sgued in this action by the following names: and designations, to-wit: ‘the unknown wife of Odle McFarren whose name is unknown to plaintiff; the unknown widow, the unknown children, des; cendants and heirs, surviving spouse, creditors and administrators of the estate, devisees, legatees, trusteeg and executors of the last will and testament, successors in interest and assigns, respectively, of Odle McFar, ren, deceased, the names of all of whom are unknown to plaintiff’’; that said action as to the defendants herein named is for the purpose of quiets ing title to real estate in the State of Indiana; that a cause of action exists against all of said defendants; that all of said defendants are necessary parties to said action and that they the beolieved to be non-residents of the State of Indiaua. :
The following real estate in Noblg County, State of Indiana, is described in said complaint, to-wit: all that part of the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter of section twenty three, township thirty four north, range eight east, lying south of the Albion and Cromwell road, excepting therefrom thirteen acres in a square form out of the southwest corner
thereof, leaving in the above description about seventeen acres of land; also thirteen acres in a square form out of the southwest corner of said southwest quarter of the northwesg quarter of said section, township and range, excepting fivee and one-half acres off of the north end thereof, and excepting also four acres in a square form out of the southwest corner thereof; also commencing at the southeast corney of the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of section twenty two, township thirty four north, range eight east, running from thence south on the section line to the Cromwell and Albion road, thence west eighteen feet, thence north on a line parallel with the section line to a point due west of the placq of beginning, thence east to the placd of beginning; also five acres out o#% the southwest corner of that part of the west half of the northwest quarter of section twenty three, township and range aforesaid, lying north of isa‘id road, said five acres to be bound, ed on the west by the section line, on ’the south by said highway, on the east by a line running straight north and south, and on the north 12' a ling irunning straight east and west, said north - line .being just far enough north to take in the orchard on saig west half north of said road; alsq twenty-five feet off of the north side of lot number sixty nine in the original plat of the town, now city of Ligonier excepting therefrom sixty seet off of the west end thereof. s

A drastic shakenp in the South Bend prohibition bureau involving the dismissal of four agents who have been active in this section for months, is understood to be impending according to advices from Indianapolis. ~ Miss Violet Streiby recently return§ed to her home in Syracuse after four years abroad. Miss® Streiby spent four years in Florence Italy, where ;she studied grand opera and thel ast six months in Europe carried the leading role in the opera “Lucia’} She expects to leave soon for New York. Miss Streiby will be remembered in Ligonier where she resided for a time. She was divorced about a year before her depature for Europe from Jake Sheets of Ligonier.
Robbers at South Bend.
Four bandits Tuesday held up an American Express truck at South Bend and escaped with approximately
$lO,OOO. W. U. Oliver 38 South Bend driver of the truck said four bandits in a large touring car forced him and Enry Bowe bank messenger to the curbk and escaped with three sacks containing the money. - : ; Officials said the shipment of money was for the Chicago clearing house..
Doctor Killed; Woman Injured Dr. Fred C. Walker of the Peoria, 111, clinic was instantly killed and Mrs. Olive Whipple wife of Dr. Walter Whipple of Peoria was sericusly injujred—when an automobile in which they were driving was struck by a train at Plymouth. '
Wawasee Hotel Is Closed.
"The Wawasee hotel closed yesterday for the season. More than 11,000 registered guests were entertained at the Wawasee hotel during the summer. An addition of 100 rooms will be built next spring. '

New Paris Man Hurt.
Howard Clark of New Paris was cut about the head and chest and Fred Boggess of Silver Lake was slightly bruised when their automobile overturned Sunday night near Burkett.

The Ligonier speed horses are at Montpelier Ohio this week where races are being held in connection with the fair there. The animals will go to Kendallville next. To Leave For Denver John H. | Married in Elkhart. Miss Ida Johmston, daughter of Fred Johnston, of Ligonier and Vernon S. Gouker of Elkhart, were married Monday morning at the home of the groom’s sister, Mrs. D. H. Jenkins, Peoria street, Elkhart. Rev. J. W. Grabill read the service in the presence of the immediate fam ilies.
- The bride wore a lovely frock of pink silk crepe, a small black velvet hat, black slippers and light colored hose. She carried bride’s roses. Her traveling dress was of navy blue Jersey. The house was attractively decorat ed with cut flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Gouker left immediate ly after the ceremony on a motor trip in Ohio, after which they will be at home at 739 [East Fourth street, Mishawaka.

Stolen Car Found.
A Ford cpupe which proved to have been stolen at Warsaw some time Friday was found parked in front of the Castle Bridge home at Columbia City Saturday night. One front tire was cff the car and it was out of gasoline. ? :
