Ligonier, Indiana Attorneys for plaintiff. 30b3w Under Arrest for Stealing Oil. = Otis Troyer, 18, and Chris Troyer, 19, have been arrested on a charge of stealing peppermint and spearmint oil from various farmers in LaGrange county. ‘The loot was valued at $7OO Six cans of oil were taken from David Hostetler, Glenn Eash, M. J. Lambright and Calvin Troyer during the past three weeks. The boys will be given a hearing at the September term “of the LaGrange circuit court.
Accident Vietims Improved.
George Diver and Thomas Mahaffey the Indianapelis. youths hurt in an auto accident near Syracuse early Sunday were both reported improved at Goshen hospital. Diver, seriously hurt was semi-conscious and able to take some nourishment. It is believed he will recover, barring complications. Mahaffey’s hnrts were serious but not dangerous. . ;
: Blacksmith Dies. . ‘ W. Siberts 63 well known blacksmith died from a stroke of paralysid at his home in Sidney. ‘Air Meet a Success. Goshen’s first air meet held Saturday and Sunday at the government air mail field south of the city, was a success. Large crowds attended the air circus both days. -Sunday afternoon fifteen planes, in cluding a giant mail plane, a small monoplane, a Stinson-Detroiter mono plane, two parachute drops, a balloon straffing contest and a pony air express race thrilled the spectators. Probably the greatest thrill came from watching Pilot Atkinson shoot his small monocoupe through the sky, stunting on many trips up. An estimated rowd of 5,000 persons gathered at the field, while twice as many were along the highways and byways near the field. The highways were congested at times with autos. .
Elkhart Child Killed by Car.
Injuries received at 10 o’clock Tues day morning when he was hit by an ahqé) while playing along the East Lincoln avenue road in Eikhart proved fatal to Junior Mabus five-year-old son of Mr .and Mrs. Levi H. Mabus, less than twe hours later in Elkhart General hospital. ' - The lad who had been playing along the highway with another small boy dashed into the street directly in the path of an auto driven by George Elurts of Chicago who with his wife was: headed east on their way to Canada. '
Flkhartan Loses Right Foot
‘Gerald Mpore manager of the St. Joe Ice Co., plant in Elkhart received injuries .to his right foot {Tuesday morning that necessitated the amputation of the miember above the ankle. Moore who was slpervising the loading of ice cakes on the delivery truck slipped allowing his right shoe to become caught between two scoring saws. His heel was so badly mangled amputation was necessary to save the leg. ‘ :
Fisherman Drops Dead.
Arthur Waters, aged about 60 years, well known resident of Columbia City and practically a lifelong resident of Whitley county dropped dead Sunday afternoon, while at Baugher lake, seven miles south of Cromwell. . -
Steals Tire, Fined.
. REdwin Smith was fined $1 and costs and sentenced to the penal farm for six months, when he pleaded guilty to stealing an automobile tire. The sentence was suspended. .
To Haul Students.
The Perry township shool will open Monday, September 10th. The township bus drivers will haul high school students this year. : :

. .GARAGE THIEF CAPTURED Yegg Giving Name of Jesse James, Jr, Who Robbed MeClure Home, Garage Caught in Illinels Tewn N it : A person giving his name as Jesse James Jr.,, was apprehended at Gillespie 111, and is being held there by t'the authorities after admitting he imbbed the James MecClure garage and ‘home two miles east of Brimfield at the junction of the T.-C. pike and state road No. 9 on the night of August 22. ~ Word to this effect was received by Sheriff John Singleton this afternoon in a telegram from Gillespie officials. - Deputy Sheriff Eugene Parker and McClure will leave in the morning to bring back the bandit. Officials at Gillespie stated James would waive extradition. i
James after breaking into the MeClure garage and his adjoining home stole a Ford car belonging to John Stewart south of here a number of tires, and inner tubes, a .38 calibey revolver, two gold watches, bedding some money and other property belonging to McClure. At the time of the robbery Mr. and Mrs. MecClurd were on a tour in West Virginia. The robber also took McClure'sdog along) with him. On a previous -occasion this dog had routed a gang of rob; bprs who attempted to rob the garage.

The tred is gone and even the stump-is ng more but the cane creoked as a snakq is still “live as of old” It’s an antique sure and its history is such that thq early settlers told great tales of at twilight 'round the open earth as thg flapjacks and “lasses” and wild pigeons were digested. ‘

The already long list of Republican business men who-have declared for Gov. Smith was augmented when Henry H. Curran of New York announced flatly he as a Republican would vote for the Democratic nomined on the prohibition issue. ‘“For on this subject the platforms are silent and a Republican may be regular afld ‘wet’ just as a Democrat may be regular and ‘dry” said Curran who led the Republican ticket as a candidate for mayor of New York city in 1921 and served as president of the borough of Manhattan, United States commissioner of immigration, magistrate and alderman under vari, ous Republican administrations.

Margaret Shoemaker of South Bend sustained gashes on her face and wag bruised when she was thrown against the windshield of a car as the car hit an abutment near Columbia City, A few weeks ago while visiting therg the girl fell off a horse and broke her arm. :
