Notice is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of Noble County, Indiana, at their office in the Court House in the Town of Albion, Indiana. wiil reeceive sealed proposals for the improvement of a certain highway known as the Maurice Biue road in Perry Township in said county and state, by grading draining and paving the same with gravel as set out in the plans, specifications and profile therefor now on file in the office of the Auditor of said Noble County. Sealed proposals for the contract fer such improvement will be received up until, and will be bpened at two o’clock p.m. on Thursday, April 26th, 1928. ' Bids submitted shall be for completion of sald improvement in accordance with the said plans, specifications and profile therefor now on file in the office of said Auditor and shall include all labor and material required for said work. Each bild must be accompanied by personal or surety bond in a sum equal to double the amount of the hid filed for said work, to be approved bv said Board of Commissioners. Said bond shall be conditioned for the faithful performance of said work; the sureties thereon, if personal shall be resident free holders of the State of Indiana, one of whom shall be a resident of said- Noble County, Indiana, and said bond shall be for the benefit of any person, persons, firm of corporation who sall suffer any loss or damage by reason of any such bidder failing to or neglecting to enter into a. proper contract to perform sald work as it is awarded by said Board of Commissioners, or to/carry out said work in any particular, or to pay for any labor or material which may be furnished to any such contractor or contractors, superintendent or agent ander him in the construction of said work.

There seenms to be considerable difference of opinion relative to the value of nitrate fertilizers on muck crops. Onion growers and mint growery will therefore be interested in three demonstrations that are being conducted this year in Noble county under the directions ‘6f the Chileat Nitrate of Coda Corporation. Lafayette Crothers has a demonstration on onions while Jay Stuckman and Bert Puckles will make a test on mint.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Piper of Washington township sustained the loss of 454 chickens less than a week old when a brooder lLouse was dedtroyed by fire. A neighbor of the Pipers saw the smoke and called them by phone. When Mr, .Pipor"rea(-lu’:d the chicken house the interior was in flames. It is presumed that a coal oil stove in the brooder house exploded causing the fire. :
Picks Up Man on Suspicion
State Highway Officer Harley Person of Goshen Monday took into custody a man who gave his name as Robert Carey of Burwick, Pa., and is holding him in jail here for investigation. Person was stopped by the man just west ot ligonier. When Carey was searched a Burwick, Pa., fireman's badge was found on him and he told officers that he bought it there.
Lands Son in County Jail. .Clarence Birch of Wolf l.ake is confined to the county jail at Albion awaiting a hearing on cnarges of assault and battery preferred by his father Virgil Birch of the same place. The charges were the outgrowth of a family quarrel at Wolf Lake yesterday. S -

Mrs. Matilda” Hapuner 84 is at the home of James Hoshaw in Benton sufering from a fractured leg at the hip jomt. She was working at the Hoshaw home .Saturday morning when she fell to the floor fracturing her leg.

Fort Wayne authorities have taken steps to secure a pardon for Henry Hay 40 farmer of Arcola who is serving a 2 to 14 year sentence for a crime which Herman Krock 25 has confessed to perpetrating. Krocks sayvs he and his brother Roland 22 somewhere in Nebraska burglarized the Homer Moore hardware store at Aveola in Sepremher'm%, Hay was sentenced for the crime. ' k
Two raids conducted on roadhouses near Goshen resulted in the arrest of Charles Landon of Goshen, dand Michael Keech formerly of Miltord on the Lincoln highway three miles west of there. Officers found 52 hottles of home brew, slot machines and punch boards which were confiscated. Both men were released under £5OO bond. |
