Man Killed By Live Wire

Paul Kessler 29 was instantly killed Friday when he came in contact with a live wire in the yard of his home at Portland. 'Kessler came in contact with his radio aerial which lay across a high tension wire while engaged in removing some broken limbs. :

Unemployved in the United States were estimated at more than 8,000,000 Monday by Senator Shipstead, tarm-er-labor, Minnesota on the basis of labor department figures which he said showed a 32.6 per cent decrease in jobs since 1920.

Elkhart Woman Injored.

Mrs. Maurice Policoss, 39, of Elkhart was severely bruised and possibly sustained fractures of several liby, when a taxi in' which she was riding’ with her little sonm, Louis, was struck by a car driven by Forest Mabee, 31, of Elkhart. Mabee was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. His wife and Paul G. Smith, who were with him were also arrested on intoxication charges. Mrs. Policoss was taken unconscious to the hospital. . :

Faces Federal Charges, Delbert Cornell .former postmaster at Helmer, will be arraigned in Fort ‘Wayne, April 24 on a charge of conversion of government funds. Indictments Retarned by Grand Jury.

The Noble county grand jury which was in session Thursday and Friday with Prosecutor C. A: Lincoln in charge ,returned indictments against three Noble county residents.

' Carl Cotton, Rome City, was charged with the sale of intoxicating lig’,uor; Jamés McClure, residing west of Kendallvilie, was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property, and Delmar Kirlin, Wolcottville, was made the defendant on a charge of wife and child desertion.

Professor Latta to Atend.

The Shorthorn Cattle club will meet at Wolf Lake Tuesday evening, April 24th.. Professor W. O, lLatta, the oldest man on the Purdue Agricultural faculty, who formerly dived in. Noble County, will be present at the meeting. The program will be announced later. ,

The Elkhart county council at a special meeting. Monday at Goshen voted an appropriation of $149,000 in aid of two state highwdys, one from Nappanee to RElkhart and the other from a point near New Paris south to the county line. :

Found Dead in Car.

The unidentified body of a man, apparently about 30 years old, was found in an automobile parked on a highway near Shelbyville. Police worked on a murder thory. The body bore a bullet hole in the head.

The ' Mier State Bank of Ligonier was granted judgment of $4,922.27 in its suit against Jacob V. Lambright, et al. for forclosure of a real estate mortgage in the Elkhart cireuit court Monday. : .

Bedy of Bandit Found.

| The unidentified body of a man ;which fay'in a morg'u.e at Shelbyville ‘was believed to be that of a bandit shot by F. O. Hillis proprietor of a filling station at Milroy; who was held up and robbed of $56 Ly two men Sunday night. , : : Hillis identified the automobile in which the body was found two miles north ' of Shelbyville Monday as the car used by the bandits and also said he believed the body to be one of the bandits.
