Favored by Majority Strength for the MieNary-Haugen bills in Congress is gaining steadily. The plan is gaining rapidly with persons and organizations throughout the midwestern states that were for: merly iz doubt regarding the kind of farm relief legislation. Reperts coming to the Indiana Farm Bureau Federation, Indianapolis, indicate an almost unanimous opinion favoring the bills. These reports are not only from farmers and stockmen, but from constructive Dbusiness. men, manufacturers, Chamber of Commerce and others in the corn belt, who realize the importance of effecting farm relief legislation. The MceNary bill has bheen recommended by the Senate Agricultural Committee and wiil be cousidered by the Senaie in a few weeks. It is expected that the ‘Haugen bill will receive a favorable report from the House Agricultural Committee before March 1, although the vote may be divided. The Indiana. Farm Bureau stronzly favors these bills. which feature the Fqgualization fee. - £ ‘

Plans to Form Shrine . Members of the Mystic Shrine in South Bend are planning to ask a dispensation for the organization of Shrine in South Bend James Haberle of Fort Wayne potentate of Mizpah Shrine of which nearly 2li of the South Bend Sbriners are members is expected to visit South Bend in a short time i nan effort to discourage the movement. : ; It is generally known that South Bend Shriners are not wholly in accord with a recent ruling made where by a heavy assessment has been made against all Mizpah members and it is said that the orzanigation of the South Bend Shrine is planned too circumvent the assessiment. j

Criticized and Coommended Bouquets and brickbats are reaching him in every mail from all parts of the country. Judge Charles M. McCabe Crawfordsville who directed acquittal of Gov. Ed Jackson said on a visit to Indianapolis. Anonymous writers have variously accused him of Ku Klux Klan membership and of Knights of Columbus affiliations but jurists and members of the bar commend the decision he declared. : : |

Hold Fine Session. The Northeastern Academy of Medicine held a fine meting at Kendallville Thursday evening and the members enjoyed a banquet. Drs. Black, Lane and Martin were present from this city and heard a splendid lecture by Dr. Bond of Indianapolis.

Student Sentenced for Thefit. Forest Brewer Indiana University student was fined $5 and costs and sentenced to 180 days at the state penal farm on a plea of guilty to petit larceny in Monroe circuit court. He stole $47.50 from a theater where he was an usher. ; - Ellsworth Improves. Dr. Black has received a letter from the Mayo Brothers sanitarium at Rochester Minnesota stating that the patient F. H. Ellsworth he took there from Lansing Michigan had his operation last Tuesday and that he is doing well.

Barr assistant state bank commissioner and K. Z. Brownwell bank examiner are in charge of the institution and intend to ask for appointinent of a receiver.

To Them a Sen is Born Mr. and Mrs. Lon Brill of Elkhart announce the birth of a son !amar. Mrs. Brill is the daughter of Mrs. .üby Schwab and a former popular teacher in the Wawaka schools. Mr. Brill is the son.of Mr. and Mrs Walter E. Brill of near Wawaka.

Afflicted With Rabies. Robert Wiley 8 became seriously ill with rabies which developed from the bite of a dog suffered last October at Anderson. He had apparently recovered from what seemed to be a slight wound when rabies suddenly developed. - '

Groomed For Gevernor Now. The first sign of an “Adams-for-Governor” campaign appeared at Vincennes Friday with announcement of a gigantic mass meeting for tonight in.the coliseum. ‘Adams who was a leader in Indiana’s political probe is attending th» Daily Inland Press Association meeting at Chicago and could not be reached for a statement. It was generally believed thete today by politicians that if the hoped for reaction is shown, Adams will declare his candidacy on the Republican ticket at the booster meeting.

Another Clinie : Announcement was made at Kendallville that the Noble County AntiTuberculosis Society will hoid another free clinic for crippled children there March 8. It will be in charge of a clinician from the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital and is financed by the sale of Christmas seals. The exact hour and place of the clinic will be. announced later.

Drives Car With Broken Arm. Rev. E. W. Gray drove from Sturgis to Orland and back a distance of 22 miles with a broken arm. The Rev. Mr. Gray preached a sermon and taught a Sunday school c¢lass with his right arm hanging limp. He stated his car backfired while he was cranking it but he did not realize the seriousness of the injury.

Is Fake Robbery. George Besnyo 23 South Bend bank clerk Friday morning confessed that he had- robbed the Fecdor State bank of $4,000 and tried to cover his theft with a holdup story. Three thousand five hundred dollars of the money was lost in a gambling house last week he said.

Do Well to Lay Ofi. The fool friends of Senator Watson will do well to lay off in their criticism of the candidacy of Herbert Hoover. and Hoover as a man. Hoover stands head and shoulders above Jim Watson in every way. Bank Taken Over. The Wells County bank has taken ,over the Citizens bank which closed for lack of patronage it was announced Wednesday. All liabilities and assets of the bank including $160,000 in dePosits which will be paid in full were transferred. Lincoln Memorial Drive. PLANS FOR MEMORIAL DRIVE

Banguet of County Workers to Be Held at Kendallville With Speelal Speakers on Program

Plans for the lindiana Lincoln memorial county banguet to be held at the Elks' temple in Kendallville Tuesday evening are practically completed according to Rev. D. R. Mosos county chairman who is in charge of the financial drive in Noble county. The banquet which is scheduled for 6:15 p. m. will be in the nature of a get-to-gether of workers throughout the county prior to opening the campaign.

Rev. Moss and other workers were at various points in the county and lined up: workers for Washington, Sparta dnd Perry townships, Cromwell and Ligonier. The county is now completely organized for the memorial drive. The Lions club is sponsoring the movement in this county. : Tuesdays meeting will be in charge of Rev. Moss who will outline plans for the workers and arrange the various teams. Among the several spealkers who will explain the projected memorial are Dr. Warren author of the “léfe of Lincoln’® and Oscar oellinger publisher of the News-Sentinel at Fort Wayne who is district chairman of the organization.

Lighty-Eight Counties Are Members. There ore eighty-eight of the ninety two couiities of Indiana that have Farm Bureau organizations. The four counties not organized are Orange, Crawford, Switzerland and Brown, all locited in the extreme southern part of the state.

W. T. Martindale director' of organization Indiana Farm Bureau Feds era‘ion reports that local organizations will be formed in each of these four counties in the near future as his goal is to have every county represented with official delegates at the Annual State Convention in November The camvaign for 1928 memberships is nearing a close and many counties report from 100% to 200% gains over last year. The total membership of the State is a record one in the history of the Farm Bureau.

Go To Work March Ist. The werk of asgessing all personal property and real estate in Noble county for the purpose. of taxation will begiu March Ist. Township assessors and their deputies will assemble at the court house in Albion to reczive their supplies and instructions There will be additional deputies on the job this year to aid in the work due to the fact that real estate as well and personal property is being appruised for the first time since 1925. ‘The law calls for the appraiseing of rcal estate every four years but the fact of the last legislature made the next real estate appraisement year 1928 instead of 1929. The township and deputy assessors will be given instructions by County Assessor George Bouse. L

Forger Goes Up. Sheriff Thomas M. Long Friday took Harold Miller of South Bend to the state reformatory at Pendleton where hée will serve a sentence of from two to 14 years on a charge of conspiring to defrand. He was sentenced in Elkhart superior court Wednesday. Jane Dorothy Borden who was arrested with Miller and who pleaded guilty to a similar charge was sentenced .to two to 14 years in the women’s reformatory at I ndianapolis 'andl will be taken there soon. Mrs. Emma Clark the third member of the trio arrested by Elkhart officers was fined $25 given a suspended two to 14 year sentence and ordered to make up the amount of the two checks which they forged and which will total about $50..

Clover Seed Thieves Sentenced Within 37 hours after they stole clover seed valued at 250 from the Kraus & Apfelbaum elevators at Auburn Walter Zimmerman 24; Frank Zimmerman 20 and Albert Lambright 19 all of Fort Wayne were each sentenced 1 to 10 years in the state reformatory in the DeKalb circuit court Wednesday afternoon. . The trio was arrested at Plymouth after failidg in an attempt to disposg of the clover seed. Before leaving for the reformatory the three men cone‘ fessed to four other robleries.
