Mr .and AMrs. Lee Myers of Columhia City miraculously escaped ‘drowning when the Buick coupe in whicl: they were riding plunged through a bridge necar Ossian. The machine toppled into the creek on its top just how the occupants escaped serious iujury_{ or drowning is a mystery. Both however received a severe drenching. Mrs. Myers suffered a bad cut on one hang and a cut on the knee. Mr. Myers was unhurt. Holmes Loses Appeal Ira M. Holmes’ suit to unseat Mayo? L. Ert Black of Indanapolis was thrown out by the state appellatc court Friday. The court dismissed Holmes' ap peal from the refusal of the Marion county superior court to dismiss the restraining order prohibiting olmes from interfering in the mayoralty tangle. | “ : Officers Settle lor $52,060 The commitice depositors of ths defunct Angola Bank Trust company which recenily brought snit against the officers and directors for responsibility of the failure of the institution and consequent ioss to the depositors have reached an agreement. It was agreed to pay $52,000 in settlemen? of the suit in which $200,000 was thq amount asked. : Wolves Seen in Koseiusko Co. Sheep growers of Eikhart and Kosciuskoe - counties are alarmed over wolves which have invaded that sec tion. Farmers fear that sheep which have been killed by “dogs” the past few weeks may have been slain by wolves. Two wolves were seen by Sheriff McKrill while enroute home from South Bend. Ny , Damage Suit Setticd. The $25,000 damage suit of Justine Wefel of Fort Wayne against Mrs. Mary Muhler of that city which started at Auburn Monday in the DeKalb circuit court was settled Wednesday afternoon out of court. On a compromise Miss Wefel was awarded $lO.000 by the defendant. Miss Wefel was a Charleston dancer. = Convention at Newecastle. - J. W. McDarby of Fort Wayne arrested on a charge of reckless driving on J anuary 8 was found not guilty in Justice Frank McCarty’s court at Brimfield. Heber Davis of Churubusco was the complaining witneiss, During the testimony it was brought out that Davis was driving his car at a speed of about 45 miles an hour in a fog. His car was badly wrecked in an accident for which he' blamed McDarby. Two girls were passengers in the Davis machine. The accident occurred near Kimmell during the wee hours of the morning. Game Season Closes. Miller 24 and his aunt Miss Bertha Hoston both of Grand Regida Mich, were rescued by Indianapelis firemen from. the top of their: sttomobile where they were mafoonéd when Mlller backed into a canal. i i. When their calls for help brought firemen from a nearby station. Millen had climbed to the top after severa} attempts and had pulled Miss Hogston after him. They were carried to safq ty over ladders. Teacher Dies © Mrs. Marjorie Sturgis age about 22 years wife of Burl Sturgis and a teacher in the South Milford schools died at Stroh at the home of her parentfl Mr. and Mrs. Roy Perkins. - Her death followed an illness of one week. Shq was first taken ill with a cold and was brought from her home at South Milford to the home of her parents. The illness affected her heart resuiting in her death. i ~ Dogs Mangle Sheep. Dogs entered the Theodore Spurgeon flock of sheep while on the Spring Branch farm but were heard and one of the dogs killed before much damage was done. A large lamh was terribly mangled. Mr. Spurgeon took his flock to his farm in the Haw Patch after the dogs were chased.
