Pape well known tree surgeon of Warsaw sustained severe bruises all over his body when his practically new Buick sedan upset in the ditch 6 miles east of Columbia City on U. S. road 30 shortly before 6 o’clock Saturday evening.. In the dense fog which had fallen Pape driving alone and headed west on his way home from Fort Wayne ‘first went off the north side of thg pavement at the top of the highway incline several hundred feet near tha Bert Corbin residence. Evidently Pape tried to get the car back on the pavement for the marks show where the machine skidded south and directly across the highway. The car then travelled fully 400 feet west between the fence and the berm on the south side of the pavement. During this course of its travels the car swung further south and tore up over 150 feet of femce and several fence posts. As the machine continued west ward it struck the beginning of the fill where the car turned a complete landing upright on its wheels, In the course of the somersault Pape‘! either lunged through or was throwni through the top of the sedan. He was unable to state after the accident just how he escaped from the wreck-. ed machine. .Paye claims. he Was] crowded off the highway by an east bound machine. | Plant At Syracuse Sold. The Syracuse telephone company came under the ownership of the Interstate Telephone and Telegraph Co., the company which holds the Warsaw Pierceton and Columbia City telephone companies. Syracuse was placed in the group with Warsaw and Pierceton under the superintendancy of J. W. Scott manager 'of the Warsaw company. Some 700 subscribers were added to the company’s holdings by the purchase including valuable summer toll patronage from: Wawasee summer resorters. Most of the Syracuse stock was held by Roy Miller. The consideration was around $50,000. Tribute To Mike Hire. , As a tribute to Michael Hire of Ligonier I would say that as a neighbor there could be none better. No neighbor was ever in distress or needed help but that Mr. Hire was always in readiness to assist. In sickness or death he never failed to assist in every detail in ail that was re- - quired of him. He had his shortcomings as belongs to all the human family but he more than made up for these by his kindness and charity extended to others.—George W. Kinnis son in Goshen News Times. 17 Year 01d Boy Potato King Indiana has a new potato king as result of the crowning of Lyle Cad- - well 17-year old son of Mr .and Mrs. Ray Cadwell of near LaPorte as the potato growing champaion of the state. i ; § Cadwell was honored with the title at the annual state potato show at Purdue University his peck of potatoes ~ being judged the best of the 500 ex_hibits.
