Destructive Fish Taken. Predatory fish such as gar and dog fish to the number of several thousand were this summer and early fall removed from various Northern Indiana lakes. That such work will 20 far to better the piscatorial sport in public waters, everyone familiar ith the destruction these species do to small game fish, readily admits. | Avwn:din:.: to the forthcoming an-\ ryial report of George N. Mannfeld, superintendent of fisheries and game for the state conservation department game wardens removed from twelve lakes and one stream, a total of 1,958 gar; 332 dogfish and 68 carp. Gar pike killed averaged four pounds in weight, while dogfish averaged seven pounds. The laygest gar weighed 14 pounds and was 52 inches long. The largest dogfish weighed 15% pounds. Fish Lake in Steuben county provided the largest number of gar, 338 being taken there, also 88 dogfish. A total of 285 gar and 3 dogfishwere taken. from Clear lake, in the same county.. Thelargest single day’s catch of gar was 57 taken from Clear lake.

Rochester Man Elected. _ W. W. Zimmerman, of Rochessier, was elected grargd: wardea of the Grond Lodge ofth eln dependent Order of Odd Fellows at the state ronvention which closed a two-day session - Thursday. Zimmerman was elected from a field of thirteen candidates for the post. W. A. Maggart of Indiamapolis was a cargdidate for the office of warden, which is the starting point to the highest office in the grand lodge, the other officers moving up automatically:— : Others named were: J. Clyde Crance, Solsberry, deputy grand master; George P. Bornwasser, New Albany, grand secretary; Frank B. McConaughy, Franklin, grand treasurer; George E. Hershman, Crown Point, grand trustee; Harley F. Hardin, Me rion, grand representative to the sovereignr grand lodge, and W. W, Zimmerman, Rochester, grand warden. - | _ Obstruct Highway. $ Edwin and William Grubb, brothers .who claimed they live in West Virginia are being held in the DeKalb county jail at Auburn on a charge of obstructing the highway. The negroes, both well dressed, had placed rails and poles across the highway and led some -motorists to believe that the obstruction was placed there to hold up traffic to rob. In court they explained that their car broke down at the Harding hill and that they were using the poles and rails to jack up the machine. They claim it was cold at the time and that they did not remove the obstructions but flagged passing cars to warn the drivers of danger. Judge Endicott ordered the men back to jail while he investigates. ”

Man is Fatally Hurt. A team of horses hitched to a wagon which was struck by an automohile near New Carlisle Wednesday evening ran away and struck another automobile, probably fatally irgjuring ‘an occupant of the second car. A car driven by D. T. Todd of Elkhart, struck a wagon driven by M. Deßaets. Good said he was bllinded by another car and did .not ‘see the wagon. The team of horses ran away, and chashed into another car, seriously injurinf Steve Marzinki of near New Carlisle. Marzinski sustained a fracture of the. skull. . i : "~ Married in Lion’s Cage. . Mr. and Mrs. Earl Osenbaugh who were married in a cage with lions at Portland 17 years ago to win $lO are “at the parting of the matrimonial ways. 2 The wife is asking for the divorce. The Jackson Trial. v Gov. Ed Jackson will make hisi fight on Monday, November 28, to escape trial on an indictment charging bribery. George V. Coffin, Marion county republican chairman, and Robert I. Marsh, former law partner of Jackson and attorney for the Ku Klux Klag, are named in the samc indictment. A motion to quash the true hill on the gound that the men are immune from trial under the statute of limitations, will be argued at that time. Oscar H. Montgomery of Seymous, }spécial judge in the case set the date after qualifying himself tc sit on the ’Mar’mn county bench.

Angola Man Sentenced. Roy Bryan of Angola, who pleaded guilty in the DeKalb circuit court to driving an automobile while intoxicated, was given a sentence by Judga Endicott wof thirty-five days at thel state penal farm and was fined $1 and costs. He was also prohibited from driving a motor vehicle for a year, : Held For Embezzlement. ~ Sylvester Brosheare 44 who tried to commit suicide at Mishawaka, ig under arrest for embezzlement. He is alleged to have embezzled $34.13 from a hosiery compamy by whom he was' *employed. Brosheare had tried to end. his life by swallowing poison.

. Makes Unlgae Record. The penchant of a 4 small nine year old boy for writing the iicense numbers of strange cars passing his homae on the natiorpl road on the side of a house with a piece of chalk, proved a Nemesis for Chester Elmore ‘and Walter Kendrick of Crawfordsville, who made a business of stealing valuable dogs and selling them. About two weeks ago, hunting dogs belonging to Johm Target and Frank Albright, valued at $lOO each, were stolen. Detective Guy Bolin was put to work on the case. Bolin started to work by questioning people in %}neigflborhood if they saw any strénge car in: the vicinity the day before the dogs were stolen. The detective gquestioned a small boy who finally remembered that he had seen a strange car pass the house several times. He had written the license number omn the side of the house withapieceof chalk. fßooljn took the number and found the owngr to be a Crawfordsville man who was under suspicion by the Crawfordsville police. : They visited Kendrick’s home and’ found the two stolen dogs and Kendrick confessed and implicated Elmore. Both pleaded guilty to larceny in ‘the circuit court at Brazil and were sentenced to orp year on the state penal farm and fined $5OO and costs. .

Kimmell, died at her home in Kendallville from infirmities of age. Born in Huron courky, Ohio, she came with her parents to Noble county when she wag two years of age. In 1872 she was united in marriage to John Kimmell, who died 10 years ago. . , ; “ Rob Ft. Wayne Truck Driver Two men early Wednesday robbed Harold Farley truck driver »of Fort Wayne of $12,000 in silks which were destined for an underwear factory near Michigan City. : The two stopped Farley forced him into their small car and one drove off with the truck. He was later pushed out of the car near Dyer, lad.

‘ Indiet Four Counclimen. Bribery was charged against four members of the Irgianapolis council in indictments returned Friday. The indictments were the second batch in which four councilmen were named. Two of those indicted were named in true bills returned ten days ago. Those indicted were: Claude E. Negley, president of the council and mayor pro tem for ten days before L. Ert Slack was named as permanent successor to John L. Duvall; Dr. Aus tin H. Todd, former member of the| majority faction of the council; Walter R. Dorsett ard Boynton J. Moore, e Clark-Rickey. John H. Clark, 38, of Morristown, and Vera Rickey, 39, of Ligonier, were joine din marriage Saturday afternoon, by Justice Geo. G.
