Two Youths Arrested. Confess'ng to a string of crimes ranging from thefts of gasoline from automobiles to burglaries, Garlin Tennant, 18, and John Weddle, 19, o Fort Wayae, will be tried at Colun.bia City on charges of breaking into twe stores thcre. v - The youths were arrested by Detective Sergcants Eugene Bouchard ard Martin Kammeyer who were inevtizat: ing the complaint o Monroe Dill at Fort. Wayne that someone tried to steal his roadster out of his garage Sunday night. Tennar. and Weddle confessed to the detectives and Martin Runcell, captain of detectives, that they robbed the two Columbia City business houses about a week ago.’ A part ol the loot has been recovered. Their lobberies also consisted of stealing automobile tires, syphoning gasoline from automobiles aryl breaking into gasoline pumps and stealing gasoline, police said. : PO

Lad Crushed to Death. Harold Lytle, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ravmond Lytle residing a few miles from Ossian died from injuries received when crushed beneath a cupboard which he accidentally pulled upon him. He died arj hour after the accident. ’ . The boy had been sent to the barn to gather eggs. One of the nests was 2 on top of the discharged piece of furniture. When Harold had climbed part way up the front of the cupbparg it fell forward suddenly, trapping the boy urder its heavy weight. The boy’s head and part of his body werg crushed. His first screem attracted the attention of his brother, who call+ ed other members of the family and the cupboard was removed. | This 'is the second time this year tragedy has struck the Lytle home, Last July, Clarence, age 17, was drowned in a gravel pit near Ossian.

Farmer Loses $7BO to “Oculists” Noah Johnston, -Adams county farmer, living near Monroe has given details of one of the most unusual confiderce games in the history of Adams county, through which he was fleeced out of $7BO. . Johnston said two strangers called at his home and posed as eye specialists. - They examined his eyes and told him they were in a bad condition; Johnston says in further examination he was hypnotized by the strangers who “fleeced” him out of $7BO. Hg drew the money from the bank, he said and gave it to the *“oculists’ while under the hypnotic spell.

Lads Sent Up.

Jesse King 19 and George lilcMillan, 21, of Altoona, Pa., plealed guilty to a charge of attempted vehicle taking before Judge Arthur Biggs of the Whitley circuit court Thursday aftermoon and were sentenced to serve from one to ten years at the state reformatory at Pendletoi. The sentence was not suspended The youths attempted to steal a Ford machine owned by Chauncey Bair, Chrubusco mail carrier, whild “beating” their way to Oklahomo.

Arrest of Young Husband.

The Horeymoon of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Wogoman of Elkhart came to a brief and abrupt end when Mrs. Wogoman's parents.’ Mr. and Mrs. David Kull of Goshen, obtained a war rant for the bridgroom’s arrest, chiirg ing him with contributingz to the delin quency of a minor. The bride gave her age as 18 when she procured the license. ;Her parents claim she is buf 16. Wogoman is ‘being held under a $5OO bond pending further actiori The arrest was made several hours aftey the marriage.

Teachers Meet at South Bend.

Approximately 2,500 school teachers will meet at South Bend Friday and Saturday, when the North Central Indiana Teachers’ Association convenes. The opening general sessions will be held ir the Granada theatre Friday morning at 9:00 o'clock. General meetings will be held Friday evening and Saturday afternoon in the high school auditorium and- Friday afternoon ard Saturday morning will be. devoted to sectional meetings.

U. S. Senator Arthur;-R. Robinson is recovering at his: home from influenza and is expected to soon be in his office. He was a patient at Kerr sanitarium for a few days during his illness. Mrs. Robinson says that a report that an operation had beer: performed was an error. :

Killed When Airpiane Falls.

William Clunie, 45, pilot; Joseph Holzer, 19, ard Carl Ebert, 26, passengers, all of Flint, were instantly killed Sunday afternoon when a new Travelair plane which they werg testing, crashed after a 400-foot plunge. : Same Graduating Class, Mrs. David W. Neidig attended the funeral of Wilbur W. Wood at Ligonier Saturday. She and. Mr. Wood were members of the graduating class of the Ligonier high school of 1880. —iGoshen Democrat.

Autos Sideswipe on Road 3¢€.

The Buick sedan owned by Geo. Gurder real!ty man of Fort Wayne and containing four occupants and the Reo touring car occupied by the owner Frank Gaul and Adam Pressler of Ligonier were extersively damaged when they sideswiped each other at about 11 o’clock Sunday night on U. S. road 30 east of the Allen-Whitley county line. The Gunder car was headed east and the other car west when the accident occurred. Neither car was upj set and none of the occupants were thrown out, but the Buick was hurled into the ditch. The Gander car wag towed to an Arcola garage for repairs while the Ligonier machine was taken irto Fort Wayne.—Columbia City Post

Sudden Deaih.

" Mrs. Wallace Ihrie, 447, died at her home southwest of LaGrar:ze Sunday night following a stroke of apoplexy suffered earlier in the afternoon. She was stricken while driving an auto alone from her home to the Corn School at LaGrange. She was found lying iy the road beside the car about a mile from her home and was taken home by neighbors. : She never regained consciousnesd after she suffered the stroke. Mrs. Ihrie attended the Corn School Saturday and was apparently enjoyirjz good health. -

Syracuse Man Acquitted.

Nine minutes after the casé of Chas. Harris Syracuse charged by Constable B. 0. Mabie with being intoxicated on the streets of Syracuse on June B§, went to the jury at Warsaw a verdict of rwt guilty was returned. Other. cases which hinged on the Harris case and which were imme; diately dismissed in court were Charles Harris receiving intoxicating li3 quor; Pete Hughes public intoxication and Mrs: Eva Davis possessing intoxicatiriz liquor and public intoxication

Former Congressman Dead.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed Monday for William A. Cullop, 74, democratic representative in congress for the second district during the Taft-Wilson administration who died ‘of heart disease. Friersls believe his death ‘was hastened by the loss of his wife, Mrs. Artie Goodwin Cullop who' died early fast summer, A daughter and two brothers survive,

Fire Prevention Week.

This is fire prevention week and is being observed throughout the United States. The schools not being in session there was no special observance in Ligonier. :

Mrs. John Hetzel, 68, died at Kenallville, after a lingering illness. She was @ native of Noble county.

Three negroes who gave their names as John Terry, 54, Edward Terry, 26, and William Terry, 48, all of Chicago, are being held for investi gation by the Elkhart police. They were arrested Monduy morning for having improper: licens: plates, and when stopped threv a bottle of liquor to the paveme t. T .vo revolvers were found in. the car.
