l - He was awarded a Rector scholarship which pays all fees and tuition 'for both departmental and ‘special for a. four year course in Depauw, leading to A. B. degree. The scholarship was awarded by the George Rector Foundation Greencastle Indiana through the courtesy and aid of Prof. Loveless principal of the Cromwell High School.
He - will be the first student from Cromwell to attend Depauw as a Rector scholar.—Cromwell Advance.
Juday Reunion
A reunion of the descendants of Jacob Juday was held Sunday August 28 at thé home of Ernest Juday near Benton. Sixty mgmbers of the family were present. Dinper was served and the afternoon was devoted to games and contests. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows: President Charles Juday; secretary and treasurer Mrs. H. G. Schroeder. The date of the next reunion: was set as thg last Sunday in August 1928 at the home of Olie Pence near Benton,
o Born in Noble County ‘ Charles V. Smith son of John C. and Amanda J. Smith was born south of Wawaka ‘Noble county Indiana April 16 1845 and died August 23 1927 at the age of 82 years 4 months and 7 days at Syracuse. : .
At the age of 18 years he enlisted in Co. B 12th Regular Indiana Cavalry He served over two years in the service and received an honorable discharge at Vicksburg, Miss., November 10 1865.
Pick Indiana Guardsmen.
~ Members of the team which will represent the Indiana National Guard at the rifle and pistol matches have arrived at Gamp Perry, Ohio, to begin training for the event. Sergeant Roy MeClary of Burnett and Private Milo D. Snider of Cromwell are among the fourteen .Indiana men selected to ,fepr‘esént the stdte.

The Banner has received a post card mailed in mid-ocean from thé steamship Leviathan by Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Rose. The card bears a picture of the great vessel. Mr. and Mrs. Rose who are to tour FEurope, send regards to Ligonier friends. :
Some Fine - Tomatoes.
Emmett Caldwell presented the Banner Banner with some fine tomatoes grown on his lot. Two of the specimens weighed/a pound and nine ounces each. He has a limited amount for sale. :

. Thomas Devault, Lewis Slabaugh and wife, Elizabeth Michael, . Mrs. Leslie Harper and Mrs. Wiladent Elson will leave Saturday for Johnstown, Ohio to attend the Smith reunion.
Airplane Kept Busy.
An aviator with a landing field opposite Freed park was kept busy Sunday taking up passengers as $3 and $5 a ride. He operated Monday at the Labor Day celebration at Cromwell.
Ligonier Loses.
Ligonier Independents dropped the ball game Sunday to the Goshen rubber workers by a decisive score. The contest furnished amusement for a small crowd. C
After New Peerless.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kiester left Tuesday for Cleveland,.Ohio, and drove back a Peerless sedan. Mr. Kiester is now agent for the Peerless cars. ' | i John Gilbert in “Twelve Miles Qut” tonight at Crystal.
| Arrested After Crash. Following an automobile crash north of ‘Auburn Frank MeClish and Geraid Ulmer of Pleasant Lake are patients in a hospital and Ray Crabill of Fort Wayne and Earl Sabin of Toledo were placed in the DeKalb county jail. Crabill faces charges of operating an automobile while intoxicated and Sabin is charged with public intoxication. Re e WA OO Finds License Plate.

This action is instituted and prosecuted by said plaintiff for the purpose of quieting his title to the real estate above described as against all demands, claims and claimants whatsoever. . As happy as a schoolboy on a holiday Warren T. McCray returned Thurs® dayto the state of which he was governor three and one-half years ago, holding his head high in the assurance that he had “paid the law” what he owed it. Several hundred persons had crowded into the concurse of the union station to greet him but McCray was unaware of it. He left the Big Four train from Cincinnati at the Leota Street station at Indianapolis and went immediately to the home of his son-in-law William . P. Evans. There Mrs. McCray, Mrs. Evans and Marion McCray their daughters and George W. McCray of Kentland their son waited to embrace him. {

Berry Picker Dead.
Henry B. Poffenbarger 74 is dead at Union City of a gunshot wound suffered Aug. 6 when a hunter fired upon him by mistake. Poffenbarger was picking berries when shot and his brown hat was mistaken for a squirrel by a hunter. .
Dogs Raid Sheep.
~ Dogs raided sheep on a farm west of here injuring 55 in the flock. Three ‘were Kkilled outright, three died later and 16 were so badly mangled they had to be killed. The sheep belonged to C. S. Swartzbergh. :

Business men of Milford railying to the support of Frank Parrish theater owner arrested for operating a show on Sunday theatened to demand strict enforcement of every blue law on the statute books of Indiana.
