Burns to Death.

~ Mary Poppe fourteen daughter. of Mr. and Mrs. Cyriel Poppe of Walkerton was fatally burned while igniting a fire with kerosene in a kitchen stove at her home. She died several hours later in St. Joseph’s hospital at Mishawaka. The girl was alone in the house at the time of the accident but her screams were heard by a brother Albert Poppe who was working near the house. He wrapped the gi-lf in blankets to extinguidh the flames which had almost entirely enveloped her, but she had already been so seriously burned that her death resulted.

Rev. Wilde Married

A wedding of interest to many in this city was solemnized Sunday evening at the Methodist Episcopal church at Kendallville when the Rev Fred D. Wilde pastor of the South Milford and Helmer Methodist Episcopal churcheg claimed as his bhride Miss Esther Donat daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Donat of Rome City and a highly ess teemed young lady of that community Rev. Wilde was formerly pastor at churches in Wawaka and Brimfield.

Loot Bank and Kidnap Cashier.

~ Four youthful robbers held up the Kinsley Kansas National bank kidmaped the cashier R. W. Owings, and escaped in a motor car with between $ll,OOO and $12,000 in cash. ‘ The cashier returned to Kinsley about a half hour later, explaining the robbers had taken him two miles ouf in the country where they told him to walk back. None of the robbers was masked. §

Killed as Tractor Overturns.

Freeman Laswell 16 was plowing with a tractor on the farm of Amos Laswell, his father three miles scuth of Versailles when without warning, the tractor turned over backwards on him and crushed him to death. . The boy’s father rushed to the scene when he saw the tractor rear up but he could not avert the tragedy. It required two teams of horses to pull the tractor off the body.

James Ballah Wednesday exhibited a freak rose branch. There. were three well developed roses growing out the stem and all of different colors.

Franks Family Feast

[ The annual big dinner and outing of the Franks family was held at Lake IWawasee Sunday. Thise ° attending from this community were Mr. and ’Mrs. B. F. Franks, Miss Charlotte Gerver, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Franks, Mrs. Will Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith, Mr. and Mrs. David Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Herald and son Carlyle, Rev. and Mrs. Freg Hill, Misses Clara and Lina Herald, Miss Evangeline Franks and George. Bearss. .

Charged With Assault.

~ Whether a teacher in the Spencerville schools administered too severe punishment without cause to a 13 year old bdy will be decided by ‘a jury in circuit court at Auburn. Dr. B. 0. Shook has charged W. N. Lake with assault and battery following the punishment of his son, Richard Shook 13 last April 1. Richard testified Monday that the teacher kicked and beat him for whispering and later slapped him for his failure to apologize in front of the other pupils.

‘ Shut Down For Two Weeks. The Farmers Elevator has shut @wn for two weeks while repairs are being made. An improvement wilt be the installation of an electric motor, with which to operate the grain elevators and when this is done the farmers will not be delayed in -unloading their grain. This trouble of caring for the wheat coming in will be obviated under the new improvement. No grain will be received at the Eevator for two: weeks.

Hurt in ollision.

- Mrs. E. C. Osborn Valparaiso is in the Sacred Heart hospital at Garrett with painful injuries suffered to her back and shoulders resulting from an automobile collision at the intersection of the Auburn Ashley roaq and the Toledo-Chicago pike.

Would Pay a Reward.

Ferd Ackerman says he would pay a reward for the return of a 31x4 tire and rim which disappeared from his Elcar machine last Saturday night. He is not sure whether the property was lost or stolen. '

LaGrange to Play Ball.

A ball team will come from La\Grange Saturday to eontest with the Independent team of thig city at the Freed ball park. The Independents'is Ligonier’s. second team and the boys play good ball. :

Off For Wawasee.

- Mr. and Mrs. John T. Baker and nieces leave Monday*for an outing of a week at a Wawasee cottage. Mr. Baker expects to keep the family supplied with fish.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raubert and daughter started on their homeward journey to Two Habors, Mnnesota, Wednesday after a week with relatives here. 'They stopped over in Chicago to visit Mr. and Mrs. Will Callahan.

S — ’ : Price Family Reunfon, : The descendants of Andrew Price held their annual reunion at the home “of Mr and Mrs. George D. Brown four miles northwest of Ligonier Sunday June 26. The immediate family {of Andrew Price consisted of ten children seven now living eighteen grardd, children an dthirty-seven great great grandchildren. : | Eighty of the direct descendants attended the reunion and with the friends present swelled the number to 120. There were four present over eighty years of age and a Mrs. Iréna Maroney a near friend of the family over ninety years of age.

Little Girl Killed.

Helen Josephine MeCreary five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.. Herman' C. McCreary who live a mile and a half from Elkhart on the Jamestown road, died at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Elkhart General hospital from injuries suffered at 2:10 o’clock when she was struck by an auto. . The girl’'s skull was fractured and her chest badly crushed. A Ford touring car driven by Kenneth Mason son of a storekeeper at Osceola hit the child as she suddenly darted across the road in front of her home. :

Men Drown In Klinger Lake.

Two men were drowned in Klinger lake late Saturday afternoon when g canoe in which they were riding capsized. A woman companion escaped a similar fate by swimming to shore. : O The men were H. E. Root and Arthur Achterbert both of Chicago, They came to the lake Saturday morning and shortly after noon donned bathing suits and set out in the eanoe. The wind was high and it is thought caused the canoe to upset.

Youth Ends Life.

Eldon Strine 22 son of Mr .and Mrs. William Strine of Nappanee committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart with a rifle Saturday afternoon at one o’clock. The young man is said to have committeed the act in’a fit of anger. He was reproved by his parents concerning his indebtedness ,and went upstairs where he placed the rifle over. his heart and bulled the trigger. He died instantly.

Five bandits entered the Commercial Savings bank at Galion, Ohio, held up bank officials and escaped with $15,000 in cash and $50,000 in bonds. .

Fatally Hurt,

~ James Leo Ludwig 19 son of John Ludwig of Elkhart was fatally injured at 3:20 Sunday morning when his car struck a truck driven by John R. Crowel of South Bend. Ludwig was returning home frem Christiana Lake when the accident occurred near Simonton Lake The young man died almost. insantly from a broken neck.
