. New Laws Now in Force. The acts of 1927 became laws Monday. ' Governor Ed Jackson at noon signed the proclamation making laws of measures passed by the seventy-fifth general assembly. One and one-half nours earlier, Secretary of -State Frederick E. Schortemeier completed distribution of the acts to the 42 counties receiving a receipt from Marion county to complete the list.

An alleged rum runner giving his name as Joseph Miller of Fort Wayne was arrested by Prohibition Agent Frank Conroy Deputy U. S. Marshal John Voegtlin and Sheriff ®Bmrick when caught bringing a load of beer there. He said he got- the beer at Toledo. The automobile contained 20 cases. :

The new $50,000 hotel which is be ing erected at Oakland Park Lake Wawasee by the Indiana conference of the Evangelical church is nearing completion. It is a two-story frame structure consisting of 64 rooms, aside from a large looby and cafeteria in connection: It will open May 30. .
Home Damaged By Blast,
The home of Earl Orr resident of Pierceton was badly damaged by fire Monday when a lighted oil stove exploded igniting a basket of waste paper nearby and setting fire to the entire kitchen. Only the quick service of the new fire truck and its crew saved the property from destruction. ;
Drugged and Robbed.
Ivan H. Fiedler 43 Muncie barber; was found along the Lincoln highway west of Fort Wayne Monday in a dazed condition and toid police he he had been “doped and robbed of $125 in money and his automobile.” He dranhk with a stranger in a soft drink parlor. . S o
Suffers Heart Attack.
Mrs. Arthur E. Reed suffered a severe heart attack Monday and was for a time in a very precarsous condition. fhe was unable to appear in Sacks orchestra Tuesday night during the rendition of the operetta presented by high school pupils. :
Maroa Evans died at Mamilton from eating poison mushrooms. The widow four children and a sister-in-law. survive. : :

Triss M. Perkins of Fort Wayne was seriously burned about his hands and face in an explosion -at his - home Tuesday morning when he attempted Lo start a fire in a stove with coal oil. Flames spread through the house following the explosion and resulted in a loss estimated at between $1,500 and $2,000. : Perkins was trying to hurry the fire by pouring coal oil onto it when the fluid exploded. His clothing caught afire but he managed to beat out the flames. = :

Stephenson former grand dragon of the Indiana Ku Klux Klan opened a new effort to obtain free[dom’ from the Indiana state peritentiary at Michigan City, Lloyd O. Hill, Stephenson’s attorney filed with Governor Ed Jackson a petition for a 90;day parole. The petition charged that pfficials of the Michigan City prison lwere guilty of cruel treatment, cited an alleged $120,000 business loss as a result and declared Hiram W. Evans imperial wizard of the klan was responsible for the troubles that have been Stephensomn’s concurrently with his fall from political pawer in the state. .

Stewart Guoit, LaPorte the man sought for questioning in connection with the bombing: of the home of James H. Machette wealthy Bourbon resident voluntarily gave himself today to Sheriff S. C. Falconbury at Plymouth. :
- Upon a warrant for surety of the peace signed by Machette Guoit was bound over to the circuit court under $2OO bond. Prosecutor Eidson has not served a warrant which he holds charging Guoit with responsibility for the bombing and is awaiting further evidence. !
Bigamist Ends Life.
Mrs. Alta Laney 19 leaped from the third floor of the Fort Wayne city hall Saturday and ended her life after being arrested -on a charge of bigamy. It is claimed she married R. W. Somers railway employe without getting a divorce from her first husband. Mrs. Laney married for the first time when she was fourteen years old and has two children’ by that marriage. Court is Opened ‘The May term of the Noble circuit court opened Monday morning with the jury called to hear the case of Mrs. Ada B. Hines of Rome City vs. the estate of the late Peter A. Sunday. The suit is for settlement of a claim in the amount of $3,600, filed by’the plaintiff for services. rendered the decedent.
