Gets Contract ¥For Eleven Mile Drain John Dehner of Fort Wayne has been awarded the contract for the construction of eleven miles of open, drain seven laterals and eight spurs in DeKalb county. The drain will sfart in Wilmington township and end in the St. Joe river. Other contractors who bid on the job were Walb Construction Co., L.aGrange and Gaston Foote of Jacksonville, 111. Plan New Hospital, - | A campaign to raise $50,000 by popular subscription in Kendallville to match a like sum donated by E. E. McCray for a new city hospital wiil be launched this week. F. E. Johnston has donated a site near the <ity park and within 600 feet of the city light plant. ‘
. Wabash Doctor Dies. Dr. H. Hale 62 assistant head of the hospital staff at the Indiana School for FeelNe-Minded Youths died at the school of acute nephritis. Dr. Hale was a resident of Wabash where he bad practiced medicine for 38 years. Swallows Carbolic Acid. Dewey Parkinson 28 swallowed carbolic acid in an atempt to end his life ‘after a quarrel with his wife. ~ Held For Death of Wife. 1 Fred Heine of Fort Wayne is in jai) on a charge of manslaughter as the result of the death of his wife Mrs. Minnie Heine, in an automobile accident east of Fort Wayne on the Lincoln highway early Sunday morn‘ing. His bond has been fixed at $5,000. Harry Sport 20 the third niember of the party is in a hospital but iis not seriously hurt. e Police claim Heine fled from the scene of the accident but was arrested when he returned about an hour afterward. FHeine denied that he had been drinking, and said that he was dazed and wandered away. ]
Goshen Man Arrested
~ Martin Stuart 23 of Goshen was arrested in South Bend Sunday evening after he had an accident with a Lincoln sedan owned by S. F. Spohn of Goshen, Stuart who has been employed by Mr. Sophn had taken the car without permission from the garage at the Spohn home Mr. Spohn is in California at the present timeé. ! South Bend Dentist Dies. Dr. Daniel M. Calvert nearly 30 yvears of age for more than 40-years ane of the city's best known dentists, died at his home of pneumonit. Dr. Calvert was born near South Bend and spent his entire life in that vicinity.. He first began the practice of dentistry in South Bend in 1876.
Chamber of Commerce Raises $24,000 An industrial fund of $24,000 was raised at Goshen last week during the special drive. This was the goal fixed by the directors of the Chambey of Commerce who are highly gratified over the success of the campaign. It is the plan of the commerce body tq start immediately their campaign to induce industries to locate there.

- Woman’s Clothing Stolen. | Another theft of women’s clothing from a home in Goshen was reported to the police Saturday night. The home of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Clover was entered some time in the afterwnoon or evening before 9:30 o’clock, and clothing belonging to Mrs. Clover valued at about $l5O was stolen. Entrance to the house was gained by Pse of a skeleton key as the door was found unlocked. The robbery was discovered when Mr. and Mrs. Clover lreturn’ed home Saturday evening. |
_ The thief at the Clover home left a girl’'s coat a bag of candy and a bag of peanuts, all found on a bed. The police are trying to discover the owner of the coat in the hope that it may frove a clue to the identity of the robber.
