Gifford Pinchot, for four years governor of Pennsylvania, went befofre the legislature Tuesday and read a valedictory bitterly pitterly denouncing his political opponents. The so-called “Pittsburgh machine” undér Andrew W. Mellon, secretary of the treasiiry, was a target for Pinchot’s fire. The retiring governor termed it an organization of ‘“vice den keepers, harlots, criminals and gangsters.” : : -Pinchot also dipped into vitriol in gpeaking of ‘William S. Vare, republican senator-elect. He predicted Vare would never take his senate seat which was “partly bought and - partly stolen”, G : The gubernatorial message was one of the longest ever delivered. Pinchot appeared before a joint meeting of the legislature at noon and read a 17,000 word message and a 45,000 word detailed report of his administration. 3

Conrad Funral. The remains of Frank Conrad werd laid in Salem cemetery Tuesday afternoon. ‘He is survived by his widow one daughter Mrs. Arthur Holmes of Battle Creek; ome son, Veryl Conrad of Ligonier; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Schick, Mrs. G. Bailey, of Middlebury, and Mrs. Oliver Haas of Mishawaka: six brothers, Edson and Alonzo of Go shen; Claude of Rome City; John of Ligonier; Ben of Ligonier; Shirley and Howard of Albion. Ten to Twenty-Five Years. Entering pleas of guilty to charges of automobile banditry in connection with the attempted holdup and shooting of William Strauss, Waynedale grocer, Carl Galbraith, 33, and his brother-in-law, Clarence Liloyd, 18, both of Marion, were sentenced to 10 to 26 years in prison by Judge Sol A. Wood in the Allen circuit court. e Two Get Theirs. Leo Armstrong, 22, a member of the Jack Butler bandit gang, and Ralph W. Harwood, 21, of Huntertown, each received a sentence of 2 years in the Leavnworth pentitentiary when they pleaded guilty to bringing stolen autompobiles into the state before Judge Thomas W. One large tree designed for the Elks lodge was the first to go and later the second was stolen from in front of the Sack Bakery.
