For County Assessor, 1 J. E. Pepple of Kendallville will bg the democratic candidate for county assessor at the election to be held November 2 having been appointed to ffll the vacancy that existed on the democratic ticket for that office. Mr. Pepple will oppose George 8. Bouse who is a candidate on the Republican ticket to succeed himself. The Republican conty ticket was filled before the primary election and thd Democratic ticket has been filled with the exception for the office of county recorder. It is probable that no candidate will be appointed for this officq on the Democratic ticket. Mrs. Frances Kuhn of Albion is the Republicaq candidate. ' !
It Seems to Know. Cacius Couts well known barber and hair dresser has a very intelligent Ford car, at least the machine seems to know that this is the open season for ducks, a .knowledge gained ng doubt by association with its owner, who is a devout hunter of the birds. . When Mr. Couts cranked the Ford last evening it headed for the Elkhart river and hesitated not until it reach-ed:-a flock of ducks in the stream thq property of James Adams. A splendid program was rehdered of which Rev, Risley had a part. Rev. Richardsor returns for his eighth year. He star ed the church seven years ago in the home of one of the members. Tt out grew a temporary building and it now has its fine new church which is worth $lOO,OOO. :

His address will be non-political and will bg a part of American Legion Day. i On Sunday evening October 10 at 5:00 o’clock Mr. Stump will speak on the “Psychology of Disposition” at’ the LaGrange Presbyterian church. . Mr. Stump is regarded by many as Indiana’s most able orator and the people of this community will welcome the opportunity to hear him in these two non-political addresses. ' Mr, Stump has always been a leader in church work and has been the teacher of a large Sunday school class in Indianapolis. Rose Klingerman age 15 daughter of Jacob Klingerman of near Tyner who tried to commit suicide Friday afternoon has an ‘even chance to recover according to word from Marshall county hospital Plymouth wherd the girl was taken. Her condition ig eMtleal. - v : “Miss Klingerman shot herself slightly above the heart Friday afternoon. _The girl whose mother is dead had often said she did -not wish to livq any more. Until two years ago she lived in Plymouth with an aunt Mrs, George Dunfee. She is a student at Plymouth high school and resided with her father on a farm one-half mile from Tyner. ! o

Rally a Suceess. ~ The Missionary Rally held at the U, B. church Tuesday was largely at~ tended by enthusiastic missionary workers from Elkhart, South Bend, Sugar Grove, Burr Oak and Solomon’sy Creek. The program consisted of splendid addresses and helpful suggestions for the coming year. Mrs, Cherry, district leader of Elkhart County presided over the day sessions and Mrs. Louis Marker district leader of Noble county presided in the evening. - 2 . ) g
To Hold Pancing Parties. The Lions Club will give a series of dancing parties and hold receptions for ladies during the fall and witner. It is the intention to give & party each month the first to be in Eagles -hall Thursday November 4th.
