POLITICAL EXCHANGE NOTES

Speculation is rife in each county in the state as to the membership of Vivian Wheatcraft’s “poison squad” of whispering women who “buttered: Indiana’ for Jim Watson’s primary success. Have you picked Whitley countys squad yet? ’ 3 Maine went about 21,000 republican It almost never goes anly other way, But Vivian Wheatcraft was sent there at the eleventh hour and maybe she instituted her “poison squard of whispering women” to help carry the day as she said she did for Jim Watson in the primary. I - Nothing can stop the prosperity of this country except war, famine pestilence or the success of the demoratig party”’—from .the speech of Jim Wat, son at Tri Lake Sept. 2. It requires consumate modesty on the part of Mr. Watson to ascribe ‘the power to pros duce prosperity to his party. And iny cidentally there are about 29,000,000 farm residents in the middle west out of 31,000,000 who would that he mighd bring some of that unstopable pros, perity to them. He certainly has been in office long enough to dever by now, and conditions are not getting better very fast. : : J When the senatorial investigating committee was at work checking up the three million dollar primary in Pennsylvania and the million dollar primary in Illinois, the statements of the candidates as to their expenditures were nothing compared to the revelations brought to light by the investigators. Jim Watson admits that he spent $21,969.17 in the primary to defeat an unknown op-> ponent, but he went down to English, Indiana a town of 546 people, to file that expense account and he almost succeeded in keeping it hidden until after the campaign. Did he wish to keep the people of the state from finding out how much he spenf or did he spend more and wanted tg keep it from becoming known. Eithern way you take it filing in English, Indiana, was done to keep under cover. People now-a-days like things open and above board.—Columbia City Post

To Deliver Farewell Sermon.

Rabbi Julius Mark after more than four years of service to the local Jewish congregation has resigned his pulpit to accept a post with the Vine St. Temple in Nashville, Tenn. It was only after much careful consideration and deep thought that he accepted the Nashville invitation, for he has been very happy here and strongly attached to his congregation. Mrs, Mark is a Mishawaka girl. Yet both felt that a call to larger duties ‘and a broader sphere of activity could not, in justice to his profession, be, unheeded. On Friday evening September 24th at 7:30 Rabbi Mark wil ‘deliver his farwell sermon. His many friends in Ligonier are cordially invited to attend. Rabbi William M. Stern of Ft. Smith Ark.,, who has been chosen to succeed Rabbi Mark will arrive in Ligos nier to conduct services and preach on Friday evening October Bth. Rabhi Mark will leave for Nashville on October Ist. -
