Miss Jessie Koon of LaGrange couls ty has been awarded the John Herron Art Institute scholarship for Lay Grange county according to announces ment just made public. The institute located at ;gdianapolis conducted g competitive art examination among students in various counties and awarded a one year scholarship to one person in each county.

Democrats at Fort Wayne Aug. 18. Democrats have completed plans for a district meeting to be held in Fort Wayne Aug. 18. Evans Wollen and Albert Stump democratic candidates for the U. While celebrating his birthday. at a Peru bathing beach, William Schininj 37 a World war veteran was drowned. Schinini had finished eating hig birthday dinner when he dived into the water and did not come up. Docs tors said heart failure may have been responsible for his death. . e

Machines Collide.

. A narrow bridge on the Line street road near the Claud Stickler farm north of town was responsible for a collision between a Ford car driven by Lee Brown son of Arthur Brown, %ot Noble county and occupied by driver and his brother and the Hudson sedan owned by Mrs. Helen Clugston of this city and driven by Robert Clugston. s ;

" The accident occurred Saturday evening. The Clugston car was coming south and the Brown car wasg headed north. The road either way from the bridge is fine and wide buf the bridge is too narrow to permit twq cars to pass. Robert Clugston did not know the bridge was there and ‘he was within thirty or more feet af it before he saw the little narrow railing, The two machines did nof hit hard, but the left front wheelg of each car struck, doing some damage. Don Crowell who was in thg car with Robert Clugston along with several others sustained a slight cut on the lip and face from glass from the windshield. - iNo oneelse was hurt.—‘ Columbia City Post.

Annual Home Tour Next Week.

The annual Home Tour in Noble County will be held Wednesday August 18th and will have for its principal object the inspection of seven demonstration kitchens in Jefferson '‘and Wayne townships which have been improved according to the recommendations of Miss Kathryne McMahon from Purdue. Miss McMahon will be here to per‘sonally supervise the tour and she will be assisted by a representative from one of the well known paint manufacturers who will demonstrate indoor paints. ’ The tour will start at 9:03 from the home of Mrs. Irma Brown, Bakertown Jefferson township. During the morn, ing other homes will be visited in the following order—Mrs. Jest Parks, Mrs. Beatrice Becker, and Mrs. Amelia Meyer. There will be a basket dinner served followd by a short program at the Meyer home. - In the afternoon visits will be made to the homes of Mrs. Minnie Dicken Mrs. Lula Hill and Mrs. Virginia. Philip Schinkel manager of the Bip+ pus elevator Friday reported that the oats threshed by George Strobel g farmer living a mile and a half from Bippus avetraged 87.25 bushels to the acre. Francis Lamb 84 a‘ native of LaGrange county died Monday at hig home in (Redfield, Mich., of hearty trouble Mr. Lamb had moved from LaGrange county to Eikhart county eight years ago and later moved to Redfield.

~ Preliminary steps to place a quaran tine on northern Indiana -countieg which are infected with the European corn borer, were taken today by Frank N. Wallace state entomologist. Wallace has returned to his home in In, dianapolib'from an inspection of thq cornfields in this section. He said thq present danger was not great as the corn borer is in the larva stage and can be spread only through shipment of green corn which is infected.
