~ Oppose Increased Rafes. = A motion for sugpension of the pro, posed higher freight rates on all ship 4 ments - of furniture, groceries, flour) feed dry goods and other merchandisg between Gary and points in Indiana within a radius of 75 miles was on fild today with the interstate commercq commission. :

The motion was filed by the Indianal State Chamber of Commerce through its traffic department, in protest against the proposed increases which range between 15 and 20 per cent more than present rates. : The commission is expected to act on the motion before August 30, the date they are set for enforcement.

Hurt In Collision of Autos,

Mrs. A. C. Fuller of Elkhart and Mrs. A. P. Wollick of Mishawaka were «ut and bruised and also suffered fron shock Sunday afternoon in a collision 'at Twenty-Second street and Mishawaka avenue South Bend when an Essex car driven by Frank J. Casey of oGshen crashed into a Ford sey dan driven by Mr.-Wallick. Mr. Wals lick and Mrs. Fuller were only slightly injured. Both cars were badly dams aged.

Getting Ald to Fight Case

A check for $l,OOO to be used in the defense of George R. Dale Muncie edis tor, who was recently found guilty of contempt of court, was received. by William V. Rocker, Indianapolis at: torney for Dale, it was announced here today. ' : _The check came from the New York World,. and will be added to the fund being raised to support Dale in his appeal to the United States supremg court.

Youths. Are Punished.

Dewey Wright, Robert Frazier and Reuben Frazier youths of Silver Lakq who passed “stage money” ten-dollar bills in North Manchester last week were each fined $lO and costs and sentenced to serve ten days in the Wasbash county jail bsides paying thg costs on charges of obtaining money under false pretense to which the triq pleaded guilty. |

Dies at Albion.

‘Mrs. Harry Marquiss 656 died Monday morning at the family home thred miles west of Albion after a lingering fllness from cancer. She recovered only recently from an illness of typhoid fever. Surviving are the husj) band two daughters and six sons al} residents of the vicinity of Albion.

According to state records this number is among the highest and considered from the distance standpoint hag no equal in the state.

To Enter Riley Hospital.

Layola Strickler young girl of North Manchester will be taken to the James W. Riley Memorial hospital af Alndianapolis for treatment just as soon as there is a vacant bed in the hospital. Judge Frank O. Switzer received a letter from the hospital authoritied announcing that application for the girl had been accepted and that her name has been placed on the roll.
