Wheat Yjeld Reported.

Wheat yields in Noble county are continuing large the latest report being made by Noah Smith who last Friday threshed 74 acres of grain yielding 2,533 bushels. This is an average of 34 bushels to the acre. One 26 acre tract yielded 40 bushelg to the acre. Mr. Smith says the grain, is the best he. ever raised. .:

A piece of wheat on the Susan Knepper farm near Indian Village yiélded 42 bushels to the aere and the writer overheard a lady at Churubusco say Friday that “their” wheat run 47 bushels to the acre. Much Booze Siezed.

The Indiana €afe at South Bend fell before the onslaught of a prohibition raiding squad sent out by the South Bend police department Thursday. As a result its proprietor Matthew Kuzmich is-at Iliberty under $l,OOO bond and more than $5,000 worth of wine and beer is stored under police guard. ‘ Eighty barrels each containing fifty gallons of wine were confiscated together with 45 cases containing 1,080 pints of beer. e

Chicago Man Injured.

Charles Clark 58 of Chicago who sagid he has been a hotel clerk therg is in Goshen hospital with a pessibly fractured skull the result of injuries received on the Lincoln highway, when the automobile driven by Aly bert J. Craft of Chicago in which he was riding collided with a maching driven by Mrs. Mabel Lake of Goshen, Clark had been walking ‘along the highway and was picked up by Craft.

Diver Comes to Grief.

John Bennett of Charles City la., day ‘clerk at the Westminister hote} at Winona Lake and former instructor at lowa University narrowly esi caped fatal injuries Wednesday forenoon when he dove off the wrong sidq of a float into shallow water at the Kosciusko lodge bathing beach. He suffered a badly sprained back- and several severe cuts on his forehead and scalp from the severe blow.

Dies From Leck-Jaw.

Otto Laymon 51 died at his homg north of Warren Huntington county Monday evening. Mr. Laymon wasg kicked by a horse some time ago and blood poison set in, followed by locks jaw. He was in Warren Saturday in fairly good health. Three doctors and a nurse were in attendance and every possible effort to save his life was made. : 2

School Band at Warsaw.

Phil Farren director of the Ligonier school band was in Warsaw Thursday and took the preliminary steps necessary for the organizing of the new Warsaw school band of ‘which he will be director. Forty-two high school students enrolled Thursday and enough have signed up to bring theq band membership up to ninety-seven.

Fort Wayne¢’s Big Gain.

According to the Fort Wayne Jour-nal-Gazette Fort 'Wayne has gained 23,723 inhabitants in- six years. A new city directory shows Fort Wayngq has 110,272 residents living in 25,000 residences and that the city has 200 industries. Ninety and_six tenths per cent of the population is American born and white:

Burglars got away with $lO,OOO worth of men’s and women’s clothing from the Levin & Sons department, store in East:Chicago. The loot was loaded on a truck which the thieves had parked behind the store.

The decedent was born in Noble county and had engaged in farming taking up that occupation in his early years, which he followed throughout his life, - % T

Surviving besides the widow are one Mrs. T. W. Shaffer and two daughters Mrs. Mae Fragure of Garry and Mrs, Effie White of Ligonier. One daughter Mrs. Alta Singrey preceded him in death.

Indiana Raunks Third.

Indiana ranks third among the states in the percentage of roads in the state highway systems that are hard surfaced. This was revealed today in federal statistics received here. Maryland and Massachusetts are the only states exceeding Indiana. Maryland state roads are 100 per cent hard surfaced, these of Massachusetts 99% and those of Indiana nearly 99 per cent. State highway officials pointed out that this high percentage would not remain long as the state is soon to take over a large mileage of county roads many of which are dirt.

Steals Bathing Sait.

George Carrier aged 19 of Kendallville was arraigned in the eity court, there charged with stealing a bathing suit, owned by George Schutt from the bathhouse of the Bixler lake bathing beach about three weeks ago. He was agsessed a fine of $5 and costs amounting to $l5 and was sentenced to six months at the state penal farm the sentence having been suspended pending good behavior.

Fatalities Near. LaPorte.

Mrs. Mary Abowd 53 of Fremont, 0., died in a hospital at LaPorte making the second death from automobile accidents within the last 24 hours.

She sustained a fractured hip and internal injuries when a large sedan she and eight other Ohio persons werg crowded intgp was forced into.a ditch by a road hog.

Claude Stephens 39 a farmer died after his auto struck loose gravel and turned over pinning him beneath it.

Big Damage Sult.

Suit for $lO,OOO damages has been filed in superior court .at Anderson by Rolf Johnson of Alexandria against FForest Williamson and Sheridan Bates as the result of an automobile acy cident. Johnson was injured when thq auntomobile in which he was a passenger crashed into a truck owned by Bates and Williamson. The plaintiff alleges the truck failed to display g tail light. :

Loren D. Ward 69 custodian of the stadium and gymnasium at the South Side high school in Fort Wayne committed suicide at the family home, ‘Ward shot homself through the heart with a bullet. from a pistol.

: " Win &l{om 7 Hrringion Bowen and Bdward Fisher of Ligonier Indiana are two of the fitty Wabash college football players that will xepert for practice September ‘7. Bowen -and Fisher were outstanding among freshmen athletes last year. Bowen winning his numerals in_ football, basketball and baseball and winning the 440 yard dash in in intramural competition. Fisher was the star of the baseball team 'and played forward on the basketball team. :

The team . work of these boys was very fine during the past basketball season, their four years in high school enabling them to outwit their opponents, and it would not be the least bit surprising if some time in the next two or three years these boys would be deing the same thing for Wabash. ;

Car Runs in Diteh.

Mrs. Mary Cramer accompanied by little Mary Katherine Spangler four-year-old daughter of Atty. and Mrs,. Martin H. Spangler met with an accident Monday evening about 5:30 o'clock when Mrs. Cramer reaching to shut the door securely lost control of her coupe, about six miles east of Albion. The car rtan into the ditch damaging it considerably but luckily neither of the occupants were injured seriously. —Albion Democrat.

Suffers Sealp Wound.

Jimmy Warble 4 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Warble of Kendallville sustained an injury to his head Friday morning when he ran against an automobile driven by Robert 'Whitford. - A scalp wound about three and one-half inches in length was inflicted a local physician having taken several stitches to close the wound.

Woman to Prison.

Because she took a younger girl Ewith, her on a wild liquor party at Fort Wayne Mrs. Elizabeth Wood mother of six children. was fined $lO and costs and "sentenced to 100 days at- the state woman’s prison on a charge of ‘intoxication.

Dies in ° Chicago.

Mrs. William Hostettler is dead at ‘Kendallville 'aged 51 years. She exDired of heart disease while sitting in a chair on the lawn at her home.
