Stage money 10 cents a hundred.” The boys invested a dime anq soon the stage money arrived. It was green on one side; yellow on the other and in each corner were the lettersy “I. 0. U” They had a lot of fun with the stage money for a few days. Then they went to North Manches,y ter taking the 'roll of stage money, but very little real cash along. Thq real money they had was soon exhausted and the boys said they wanted some more real money to continud their fun. ,
They went in one store made 3 small purchase and while the clerk was wrapping it up they marked ouf the “U” on one of the pieces of stage money leaving “I 0 at each corner, The stage money was handed the clerk and he thinking it was a $lO bill gave them the purchase and change for $lO. ’
Going to a second store they worked the same scheme again. It was almost too easy to pass the bills so the boys tried it a third time. At the third store the proprietor had to walk td a safe at the rear of the 'store for change. On the way back he noticed that the paper he had in his hand wag not a real $lO bill. Going back to the boys he remarked that he did not have sufficient change but that "if they woud go with him he would get, it.
' The four left the store and headed down the street finally turning in af one door. It was the town jail and the town marshal- was sitting at his ;»desk. Mier cashier of the Mier State Bank of Ligonier has organized what is known as the Commercial Securities company to do business in Northern Indiana cities. /
Its purpose is best explained in the following article which appeared in the Sunday issue of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette: .
“Fort Wayne home owners will be glad to know that they are now able to make improvements on their properties by means of a finance plan being presented by E. L. Mier Commercial Securities company of Ligonier, Ind. ' - “Mr. Mier is connected with the Mier State bank of Ligonier, one of the oldest and most substantial institutions in the northeastern part of the state, and well known in Fort Wayneq
financial circles. He has also been associated ' with the Adolph’ Hammel company of Chicago in this line of business and is well versed in the plan of operation. “This type of proposed financing has been used in Chicago and vicinity for several years with exceptional success. - : -
“The company is now opening up the territory in and around Fort Wayne, Elkhart South Bend Michigan City and the Calumet district.
“A careful analysis has been madg of the situation in Fort Wayne and the company states that in their opinion this city is in need of just such financing. The proposed plan is to underwrite painting decorating heating, wiring and electrical = fixtures, side walks roofing masonry and general contracts and the installation of oil burners frigidaire machines water softeners and other improvements to properties on an easy payment plan. . “This plan affords the home owners of Fort Wayne an opportunity of making improvements on their properties on a time payment plan, which otherwise probably would not have been undertaken due to the fact that such improvements are generally only securable upon a cash basis. , ‘A contractor will be sent by the company to each individual contemplating improvements or the property owner can select his own contractor, and arrange for the financing through the E.
