Plans Completed for Farm Pienic. 3“ a meeting held at Kendallville thwg farm bureau representatives from eight counties in northeastern Indiaba another step was taken toward completion of the program for the gigantic Fourth of July picnic to ‘be held in LaGrange county July sth. R. N. Walter, chairman of the program and entertainment committee was authorized to appoint committees to select the place and arrange the events for the 'day. KEach county is expected to furnish a special number on the program., An addres will be be delivered by a speaker of national reputation. Invitations to attend are being forwarded to the Kiwanis and {Rotary clubs and Chambers in this part of the state.

Miss Bolitho Honored.

Miss Kathryn V. Bolitho of Ligonier was one of several Indiana University students honored recently at the senior convocation at the state university, The convocation is an-annual affair held in honor of the members of the senior class and especially in hohon of those who have distinguished themselves during their four years on the campus. ; : =

' Miss: Bolitho won <distinction in scholarship and was selected to Phi Beta Kappa,( honorary national scholastic organization. 2 Miss Bolitho will be graduated from the university this year with the A. B. degree. k :

the- Jefferson club building at Fort Wayne late Saturday night threatened for a time serious damage. Firemen from three stations responded to the call. ‘Great difficulty was experi--enced in reaching the seat of the blazé which gnawed its way through the rafters. The Gem restaurant ‘was’ flooded with water. Three familes residing -on the second floor were routed with smoke. x

ChstFisen Weliloyer-of the Noble county démocratic central committes was in Ligonier from Kendallville last Saturday consilting party leaders over the selection of a chairman for the Twelfth congressional district to succeed R. Harl Peaters, who since his @lection has been made chairman of the State demoératic committee. A new -district chairman' will be named at 'a meeting of county chairman in Fort Wayne ‘next Saturday. Candidates in the field are Sam Celeland, Fort Wayne, E. P. Mosley, Angola and Paul Dunton, LaGrange.

Charubuseo Man Sentencey to Prison.

Elmer E. Gandy of Churubusco was convicted of having issued checks without funds in the bank in the Hunt ington circuit court Friday afternoon and was fined $lOO by Special Judge C. K. Lucas and sentenced to not less than one year and not more than five years in the Indiana prison. A mdtion for an appeal and the ‘appeal bond was fixed at $5,000. Mr. Grandy was denied a new trial on May 22, 1926, when Judge Lucas overruled his motion. : :

‘ Search of Car Illegal. " An objection to the fntroduction of seventy bottles of home brew as evidence in the case against Chester Coldren driver for the Yellow Taxi company of Goshen who was charged in two counts with transporting and pos session of intoxicating liquor was sustained by Judge Firestone in the city court here. The case was then dismissed and was refiled in the circuit court. A

Members of the Ligonier Lions club entertained their wives at a six o’clock dinner at Hotel Ligonier Friday evening followed by music and dancing at the Eagles hall. At the meeting the state convention at Fort Wayne June 15 and 16 was discussed. The local delegation is to be accompanied by the Ligonier band and a great time is in prospect.’ s i

Falls From Roof.

Little hopes are entertained for the Tecovery of D. J. Bayleat of Elkhart who fell from the top of a house roof where he was working. He has 23 facial bruises, three fractures in his right arm both legs are badly bruised and it is feared his lung in punctured.

Head Crushed.

Lawrence Parmented, 50 of Payne, Ohio, was instantly killed shortly after noon Friday when the sliding door on the side of a freight car was slammed shut on his head, crushing the skull and breaking his neck. :

He was united in marriage with leisdl Baer January 21, 1858, who preceded him in the beyond November 14, 1922, To this union were born seven children, two dled in infancy; three sons and two daughters and 13 grandchil~ dren and 9 great grand children survive. One sister and a host of friends come to Indiana in 1860 and settled near Cromwell, living on the present premises 61 years and helping to make Sparta one of the beautiful spots of Indiana. He was spry and active for a man of his years and was liked éby the entire community. S

- Funeral services were held at the home and interment was made in Oak Park cemetery, Friday, May 28, 19286, conducted by Rev. Leland W. Porter. The family wish to express their gratitude for all the kindnesses of their friends and neighbors.

. Mayor Chester R. Montgomery of South Bend promises to bring action against several men who have been “grafting” from alleged liquor law violators. Protection money has deen paid these men according to informaition received by the mayor. The accused are not connected with the ‘South Bend administration and Mayor Montgomery says he will bring them into court. 5 f e
