: Amith Bead Sink Nole ‘Little progress id being mate in filling the simkicle on the Smith road about two tiles neftheast of this city by William Shively of Churubusco, and his corps of men says the Kendallvile New Sun. For some tima ldirt had been hauled from the Wil;}llam Hovarter farm to the ginkhole, but it disappears almost as fast as it is dumped into the keole. At present more water is standing over the sinkhole than at any time in the history of the residents of that community.
-~ J. W. Wright took eccasion to visit the sinkhole Monday and in looking over the existing conditions became somewhat reminiscent. He said that *‘some~yeu€s ago he assisted im trying to fill the sinkhole. Six acres of elm timber were used in an effort to make the road fit for travel but with little success as the timber was “swallowed up” in the fathomless deep. Hvery conceivable method has been carried out to fill the sink hole and what success Mr. Shiveley will have remains to be seen, Mr. Wright stated that when he worked on th eroad the sinkhole was sounded out and it was discovered quickksand was to be found to a depth of 70 feet. : _ Logs have been chained and bolted together piling has been placed and countless numbers of loads of dirt have been dumped into the sinkhole. Where all of the material goes is somewhat of an enigma for those who have had anything to do with the road improvement. With the high water little work cma be accomplished mow.
