. Aged VWeman Dies of Cold. The l';dcly of Mrs. Harriet Shoemaker 92 -was found early Monday morning lying near a sidewalk about' two blocks from her home in Claypool after she had wondered from her home and died of exposure during the night. ' The temperature Sunday night dropped to below freezing. When found her body was clothed in a nightgown, shoes;and a shawl was thrown about her shoulders. Henry \\Tai‘ner on his way to work early in the morning spied the body along the sidewalk, : ) Thanks to Earl Crawferd According to the present alinement adopted for the Federal numbered routes the Lincoln Highway is inciuded with the exception of the sections between the 'following'points: ' v Jefferson to-Ashland, Qhio. SUME BEAUTIES OF WAWASEE 'Tis a beautiful morning in September, the old lake lies at our feet like a shilmmering sheet of crystal glass, resplendent in its repose, as if asleep and at peace with all the world. All hature round about seems in periect accord. Scarce a sound is wafted on the morning air tc.break the impressive stillness, save the distant rumbl-, ing of a train on the B. & O ‘the chattering of a squirrel in a near by oak, and the baying of a hound in a lar-away neck of woodland, as if in 2reeting to the orb of day, as he peaks above the eastern ridges heralding the birth of another day, as he has dome for countless eons of time. il the vaulted blue above a mighty network: of tiny, - flmy, flake: white cloudlets, as f woven by some titanic hand for Heaven’s drapery, is lazily winging itself onWard, changing, ever changing, the while, into more wonderful patterns as if nature - were iickle in her designing. Then gazing into the limpid waters velow, one can almost imagine himseif suspended beween duplicate worids, 30 wenderfull'j clear and realistic-like does the picture appear, for at no Jdme have I seen the reflection so perfect. &

; A vista of canyon, cataract and mountain peak has g rugged granduer an awesome sublimity all its own that atirs one’s soul to its very depths, Jringing him face to face with the stupendious upheavels of old mother earth, which are but scars of her appalling convulsions during the evo.ution of globe building millions of sears ago. But for quiet, restful beauly give me a lake like old Wav’v‘a‘see, dropped as a gem amidst a panorama of verdant fringed -shore line of surpassing beauty. And then the sunsets and the splendor of the moon as she gursts through a rift in the clouds and turns the -rippling waters into millions of dancing diamonds! Especially is the sunset gorgeous when atmospheric conditions are perfect and wisps of alto-cumulus clouds for instance, dot the western heavens. 'Tis then that Dame Nature paints with lavish brush a masterpiece on sky. and lake, while cloudland seems an archipelago of bejeweled isles afloat in a sea of gold and crimson; and then, as if not enough, along comes Jack Frost with magic brush, turning to gold, purple anad’ erimson the verdant woodland round-about as if to complete the glorious color scheme.

A Sunset at sea is a splended sight, as the great red globe dives into the vast waste of waters, but is ‘not comparable to an inland lake scene where hature comes to the recue with her landscape trimmings to add to and complete the picture.

Yes, there’s much beauty about the old lake but the autumnal days have a loveliness all their own that those of mid-summer know not of; for nature’s chemistry has wrought its magic in colors, changing the world of forest green into a veritable fairy land of bewitching beauty, as if in gala attire to do homage to the lingering sojourner, ere it goes into its winter’s sleep to awaken again -in its joyous Spring time verdure. Yet, how many fail to appreciate, to the full, natural beauty so lavishly scattered all about us! They give it but passing thought, carrying with them little or no impression on mind or soul. Such people miss much of the poetry of life," Bogardis, Surprise Party. ' Mrs. Wm, Slater of 223 N. Cavin St. was pleasantly surprised last’ Saturday evening by a large number of her friends who assembled at her home and reminded her of her birthday anniversary. She received a number of pretty presents. And at a late hour refreshments were served by her, daughter. o T A s e s era S, ~ Colleen Moore in the Desert Flower is a peach of a show.
