On Trial For Assault, Jas. Durham North Webster deputy state game warden was placed on trial at Warsaw in circuit court on a charge of assault with intent to kill Charles Long of North Webster. A peculiar angle of the case is that the state through Prosecutor Rockhill is attempting to convict Durham, while through lawyers employed by the conservation department it is seek ing his acquittal at the same time. Durham shot Long when the latter resisted arrest while fishing with a net in a Kosciusko county lake. Durham claims he shot -in self-defense when threatened with an oar in the hands of Long, !

Verifies Banner Story. / The Goshen Democrat of Monday verifideg the Banner story of a wreck near ‘Goshen as. follows: : : “Vernon A, Ickes of Chicago is in the county jail following his arrest Sunday afternoon by Sheriff Thomas Long on a charge of driving an auto while intoxicated. His detention was the result of an accident on the Lincoln highway about one-half mile east of the Kundred farm. ' “Ickes is alleged to have driven his machine a Ford sedan against a car owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Hirsch of Pittsburgh Pa.. Mrs. Hirsch sutfered a broken left arm. Her husband was not injured. Mrs. Hirsch was taken to the Elkhart General hospital at Elkhart for treatment. ' ' “Sheriff Long confiscated a quart hottle half full of gin which he found it Tekes' car.” :
