The Elkhart county fair which clos ed Saturday night was one of the most successful in the history of the organization.- Secretary Williamson said that it would be-several days before the total mttendance and financial statement will have bheen comcomputed. 4 The fair association paid $l9OO in back premiums and other old acgounts, and this may tend some-fi’hut to lower the net returns this Vyear. Had it not been for paying these accounts, Mr. Williamson said, the fair association would have “broke even’, o Onions Bring $1.50. Onion growers of this section are disposing ‘of their crop at $1.50 per 100 pounds, a lower price than was expected. earlier in the summer. The low price is said to be due to large pr"oduut.ion in- other parts of the country and the shipment of cargoes of onions from Spain and Japan.

Russell, 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Estlick, of Etna township, Whitley county, suffered a bullet wound in the left foot Friday while cleaning a gun, The boy had returned from a h unting trip and had cleaned the gun and had placed |a shell in the barrel when in some man ner the gun was discharged. The bullet struck two inches above the ankle and passed diagonally through the ball of the foot. ' :
Drunk Must Serve 40 Days.
Wesley Larson, arrested at Churubusce Monday night by Nightwatchiman George Rapp while he was indulging in a Labor Day celebraticn, entered a plea of guilty to a charge of public intoxication before Squire J. K. Heffelflnger and was fined $lO and costs amounting to $39.40, As he has no money Larson was committed to the county jail to lay oat the fine. ' o

Mistaken for a burglar, Arthur Place was shot by his hrother-in-law, Clark Creigh, with whom he lived as he attempted to enter the house at an early morning hour at Fort °Wuyne, Creigh told the police he was aroused by the rattle, of the door knob and thinking it w\;ls a burglar he fired through the door, Place was shot through the shoulder and his condition is ‘not serious. ;

Burglars gain entrance into three West Goshen homes early Sunday morning and after sprinkling chloroform about the premises to prevent their victims from awakening, ransaked the dwellings from top to bottorn and escaped with loot valued at approximately $l6O.

Herbert Marow, of South Bend, was wanted at Rochester today on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses, brought by one of the drivers at the Labor Day auto races there. . ; _ : : Nearly four thousand persons paid to see the races, for which forty-four drivers were scheduled to qualify. Only four drivers came for the race and during the storms of protest from the grandstands $B,OOO in gate receipts disappeared, the complaint charges: @ The four drivers went ahead with the race to satisfy the spectators and when they_ hunted for Marow for their prize money he could not befound.
Dismembered by Cars.
E. E. Ensley, age 55 years, of Montpe]ier, Ohio; met a' tragic death Tuesday at Wolcottville when he was
run over by passenger train ™No. § on the Wabash railroad. His body was cut: in twain, his right arm severed at the shoulder and his left foot cut off was found near the depot some time after the accident. o o
Mr. Ensley was. a freight conductor on the Wabash and was deadheadnig back to North Liberty, términal when the accident occurred, Thete were no eye’ witnesses to the accident and when Ensley came up missing, the train crew became elarmed and a search was made for the missing trainman. . .
Millersburg Reunion,
At the twelfth biennial four generation reunion held Labor Day at Millersburg the following officers were elected :Harry Beck, president; Geo, Mason, vice president; ‘W. B. Barnard, secretary ; and Luther Juday treasurer.
The reunion was attended by about five or six hundred persons who enjoyed the musical program and the speeches, the principal one of which was delivered by Attorney Aldo J. Simpson of Goshen. The next reunion will be held two years from now at the same place. ;

The occupants escaped with lacerations and bruises. ; Onion Crop to be Larger than 1924 Despite frosts and doughts in the hpring, the onion crop of northern Indiana, the largest. producing section in the entire country, this year will far exceed that of 1924 according to Federal Inspector J. K. Dickson, who has just completed a survey over nine counties in the onion belt.
- Apoplexy Causes Death, Funeral services for Mrs, Emma Cleland, 60, who died Saturday evening at Albion, from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy, were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the late home at two o’clock. Rev. W. R. Page of Kimmell, officiating. Interment at Wolf Lake cemetery, i . Brimfield Dog Wins. The dog- of Forrest Edmonds, of Brimfield, won first in the coon chase held near Cromwell Labor Day. An Indianapolis dog finished second, Over fifty (fogs including many from a distance competed in the chase which covered one and three-quarter mmiles.
