Any reputable investment security dealer will tell you that United States government bonds-are the safest investments in the world, and, if you are a small and inexperienced investor, will advise you not to let anyone trade you out of them. The trading of gaudy promises for sound securities is a new-old wrinkle o fthe security fakers and bucket shops. It is ealled the '-Switching game. A great many investors are becoming ,é(.lucated to the fact .that gsecuritics worth while must have. a record o fearnings and substantial business success in the company that igsues them. They demand a great deal more than promises. The faker meets this situation usually by offering some . well-known - stock of a a great, nationally-known, successful business, which stock often is listed on the New York Stock Exchange where all can see its market -price. | The faker can earn nothing by selling such stock, not even a broker's commission, because no reput-: able stock ‘exchange would endure him fora minute. He may even lose a few . dollars by buying the stock an dselling it.. But by selling this honest security in an honest way he worms himself into the confidence cof hig intended victim., Generally the steady, reliable old, dividend-paying stocks do not yield get-rich-quick returns. After awhile the faker points out that the good stock is slow. He hag something that promises 10, 20 50 or even 100 per cent. He trades his “promising” unknown stock usually worth little or nothing for the sound ° securities he‘ previously had soold his victim. In other words, he switches his victim from a good investment to a worthless one, -. There is a simple and very effective guard against the switching game and against every other trick of the faker. It is simply to learn the money-making record o fthe company whose securities are offered and the standing of the dealer offering them. If the company has never earned money and if the dealer cannot give the names of a number of reliable business houses and persons of whom you can inquire personally or by mail don’t deal with him. His mere promises are almost invariably worthless. : :

Jags Come High Now. Five persons Mr, and Mrs. Rene Dhanens, Wooderd Green John oßck and Ralph McLouis all of South Bend were each fined $5O and costs and given 60-day suspended sentences in Goshen court late Tuesday afternoon when they entered pleas of guilty to charges of public intoxication.

Death of Mrs. Fasnaugh,

Mrs. Noah Fausnaugh died of pneumonia at her home in Kimmell Friday morning, She recently underwent alf operation for appendicitis and pneumonia developed. She is survived by her husband and .7 children ranging in age from two to sixteen years.
