Two “robberies were attempted in li{endallville Wednesday = night by thieves who made efforts to enter the ‘Central Drug store and the Kendallville Hardware company store by breaking windows in the rear of the buildings. At.the Central Drug store the thieves gained entrance to the rear storage room but were unable to enter the front part of the store hecause of -a large locked door that separates the two .rooms. A glass in the rear door was broken this enabling the thieves to reach through and remove’ the bar which fastened the doors. At the- hardware store the glass over the rear door was broken but bars across the opening of the inside of the room prevented the thieves from entering.. ' - Life Prisoners Paroled., = Thirteen persons who have been serving sentences in state penal insti. tutions including iwo who faced ii‘mprisonment for life for murder were paroled by Gov. Jackson. The governor 110‘.7&'63\'91' refused clemency to eighty. In addition to these the 20vernor granted commutation of sentences in the case of five vi'nn-hii'iingf two who were nnder life sentence for murder. Mrs. Chaddock had heen a. resident cf Nappanee for the past fitteen yéars Prior to that time she had lived in Magnolia Ohio. Charged with embezzlement {rom the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Alonzo J. Elkins "of LaPorte and D. Rimpley Wright of Elkhart have been arr-‘ested on warrants from the superior court and are -at liberty under bonds of $l,OOO each. Anetlier man who is wanted on a similar charge has not been apprehended. Elkins is charged with embezzlement of $102.66 and Wright embezzlement of $47.92. Elkins was arrested in LaPorte Tuesdav. ' ¥

When a large. motor bus on a curve attempted to pas saround an auto dri--ven by Harry Beyer 35 at Warsaw the bus struck the auto overturned:it in a ditch and unable to negotiate the eurve went through a fence and landed in a muck field. Beyer and his passenger Mrs. Charles New of Rourban were thrown under the wreckage but escaped serious injury. j Giris to Run City, Not to be.outdone by. the boys of Decatur who, recently held a city election and run the city government for an hour the girls of the city have nominated three tickets for;ja city election and the winning ticket will take over the city's reins for one hour next week. : Better Mail Service., - Clyde Walb republican state chairman has secured better mail service for LaGrange. He took the matter up with. Postmaster General New and arrangements were made to 'improve the delivery of mail to LaGrange by the G. R. & I railroad. - John, the Road Maker. : John Reese well known road builder is now working with his force of men widening cutting out the -hillsides and leveling the streteh of road from the Charles Wemple farm to the curve near the overhead bridge. The road will be improved with gravel.

- Defeat Daylight Saving. The proposal to observe daylight saving time at Elkhart was defeated at the primary election by a vote.of 2.881 1o 2,509. David Hoover republican and Mayor Frank ILeader democrat are the city's mayoralty nominees for election next WNovember 3. ' To Attend Angola Reunion. The annual reunion of the 157th Indiana Volunteer Infantry -war with Spain of which Company C of this city was a member was held at Angola Sunday May 10th.
