Mrs: B. E. Rickard of this city while making the turn at the road corner in her Ford car at the Viola Dodge farm Thursday evening ;traveling north she met.-an Overland touring car head on driven by Frank K. Streeter of Wolcottville and occupied by himself and wife. . ‘ ' The impact drove and wedged the cars together an dthe occupants barely escaped with their lives. Mrs. Rickhard suffered bad cuts on her nose and a cut and bruised knee., She was alone in the car. The lady ‘was picked up and brought to Dr. Lane’s gffice where Dr. Shobe dressed her injuries after which she was taken to- her home in. the Bothwell flat corner Cavin and Foutrh strets. Mr. Streeter escaped unhurt but Mrs. Streeter suffered some bad bruises. She was attended by I)l'.i Black. . ' : 1 _The Overland machine a compleie; wreck was settle for by Mr. Rickard as Mrs. Rickard was considered at fdult in driving on the wrong side of the street. ' - The Rickard Ford was also badiy damaged but when seen: Friday the owner sai dhe thought it “could be patched up” v - The Dpassencers in the cars weie fortunate in escaping with theiy. lives. tt was raining at the time of the collision and water on the Ford windshield obscured the view of Mrs. Rickard. ' ' : Hurt in Fall. : Sylester Whitsler 76 suffered the fracture of three ribs and his ecollar bone and many severe bruises Saturday morning when he was thrown from a wagon he was driving at Elkhart. He was rushed to the Xlkhart General hospital. His ph}fi;iGiflD, reported his condition was satisfactory.

The Jefferson Township Farm Bureau folks are assured of a big audience at the Perry township centralized school house mnext Triday evening April 17 when they will put on the comedy drama “The Road to the City.. It is a benefit performance tor the southern Indiana storm sufferers.

While responding to an alarm therg a Kendallyille fire truck crashed into a Buick roadster driven and occupied by Clyde Rohleder and family of that city. Fortunately no one was killed but both machines were badly damaged. = :

A company of friends pleasantly surpriged Gertrude Kimmell “at the home fi)f. Mrs. Blanch Latta Sunday evening it bcing 'her birthday. A picnic supper was served. All report a most pleasant evening. .

Robbers Friday night loaded the stock of merchandise of Clem Routsong dat: Waolcottville on a truck and carted ilt wfay. The thieves left no clue. - - ‘ .

The Blazed Trail Garage has convetred a big Cadillac car into a wrecking machine and is now in position to handle wrecked cars on short notice.

Harry Gale Home,

AMr. and Mrs. Harry Gale who spent nearly two years in Florence Colorado are home and may remain. They drove to Colorado in an automobile where Mr. Gale'went for his health, having suffered here {rom asthma. AMr. Gale was employed by the Snodgrass Fruit company in Florence a firm with forty branches. He left for the reason that hjs malady showed no abatement and hge will now try for outdoor work. Before going to Colorado Mr. Giale was a valued employee of the Weaver Hardware store in this city. DMrs, Gale is visiting her parents in Churubusco. ‘

Ligonier officers were notified Thursday evening of the theft of a Hupmobile touring car at Woif Lake the property of Ralph Fuller. No particulars were learned.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Odell Oldfather had just been released from quarantine when little Sammy developed scarlet fever an dthe restraint was established. .

- Ligonier was represented at the Noble County Older Boys Y. M. C. A. 'Conference at Kendallville by Carl Bourie, Harold Reynolds John Weir and Charley Blue the leader of the Ligonier High Y. The above fellows went by automobile. Mr. A. Y. Flint also attended the bainquet and Saturday morning session. The voung men received many good pointers in deciding their lifé work and helping to make a better community in which they live.. . ' Ligonier should be proud to have one of its young men elected as vice president of next year's 'conference, He lost the race as president to Russel Walters of Kendallville. This ybung man is Raymond Claudon a member of “the High Y and of the Gospel Team. ' The High Y will have its usual meet ing next Thursday evening at 7:15 at the High School building. Every high school boy be out to hear the report of the conference. * c),'

Death o 1 Mrs. Allie Stuart,

[ Mrs. Allie Stuart 64 formerly of Chicago who since the death of her husband Frank Stuart 17 menths ago had made her hLome with her sister Mrs. G. A. Henry at Elkhart dieq at 6 p. m. Friday at the Kerr home in Ligonier, where she had béen visiting since the first of the year. Heart trouble was the cause of her ?eath. . Mrs. Stuar} has no other relatives execpt Mrs. Henry and a number gf)f nieces and neéphews. = . The late Mrs. R. D. Kerr was a sister. The funeral will be coaducted by Rev. Bacheler of the Pre‘sbytgrién church at the Kerr home here Tueésday afterncon at 2:30.

Injured in Accident.

Elmer Henschen 18 and his mother Mrs. H- W. Henschen 53 both residing o a rural route narrowly -escapéd serious injuries when their automobile was struck by a fire truck out of Fort Wayne Saturday morning. Mr. Henschen was driving his autormobile south and said he did not notice the fire: truck zfpproa’c]fing from the east. He was badly bruised as the result of being thrown against the side of the machine “and his motherfs leg was injured when she was thrown from her seat.

Injuries Canse Death, ,

Georgia W. Truax 14 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Truax died in the Elkhart Geenral hospital from injuries received last Tuesday. The child was crushed under a falling hay rack while playing “Run Sheep Run” in the barn on her »fa-lhe'r‘g tarm just outside of Elkhart on the Edwardsburg road. She was unconscious from the time of the accident until her death - 1 L :

Opening of the baseball season took place_Sl,mflday_ afternoon at the new Freed park grounds with a practice game be-t.\y"'een the Blitz factory and the city teams in which the latter won by a score of.B to 0. ‘ A fair-sized crowd of fars were out to witness the uneven contest. It will not be long until the regular schedule of games will open.

Heavy Fire Loss.

James Kinnison received word from his brother Ed at St. Joseph, Mich., stating that his daughter’'s store there had been completely destroyed by fire entailing a heavy loss.. Ed Kinnison and daughter are well known in Ligonier being former residents of Benton township. '

- Police Chief Wolf and Officer Rowen shattered all records during the month of March- when they entertained sixtytwo lodgers at the city jail. The hoboes registered ' from town all the way ‘from; Atlantic City N. J. to Los ‘Angeles California and from New Orleans to Detroit. o .

Z. T. Cook Home.

Z. T. Cook who had be'n so dangerously ill in Closhen hospital arrived home and took breakfast this morning at an up-town cafe. G M. and Frank W. Zimmcrman and Ed Compton drove over Sunday and visited Mr. Cook at the hospital. .

Among the new students announced at Western State Normal Kalamazoo Mich at the beginning of the spring term is Miss Elizabeth Bacheler of Ligonier who is enrolled for a senior high school life certificate course.

- A small child aged fifteen months of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weimer fell from the second story window of their home in Avilla the other day nad escaped without serious injury. .

A very pleasant birthday party took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Rench 249 W. Union St. Easter the occasion being the 25th anniversary of their son Joseph. Joseph E. Rench reached his 25th birthday today April 13th. Thirteen guests were present. The usual birthday cake graced the center of the table with 25 candles beautifully ornamenting the top. The decorations were in Easter effect. The guests present were Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Rench of near Cromwell, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Shell, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shell, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Stage and Miss Ollie Galbreth of this city and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Rench of Goshen. he oceasion was a memorable one for Mr. Rench as well as. a complete surprise. He received several very useful presents.

Reuben Frantz of North Manchester was badly burned Tuesday when his clothing caught fire while he was engaged in burning brush. He succeeded in extinguishing the fire by jumping into a: creek but no before he had been seriously burned. .

Warren Hardendorf 30 was buried at Sweet cemetery in Jefferson township Tuesday in the vicinity of where he was born and reared.: Deceased was thes on of Judson Hardendorf of that township and for a number of years had been at Easthaven insane hospital. : e ‘

Mrs. Bessie Black paid $1 and costs amounting to $1 in Mayor U. C. Brouse’s court at Kendallville on a charge of assault and battery filed by Mrs. Esther Myers. The case was the outgrowth of an altercation which occurred bhetween the‘ two young women. ¢ -

The subject of Dr. Folsom’s lecture to-the Chamber of commerce dinner next Thursday evening April 16 6:30 at Hotel Ligonier is ‘‘Assembling of a City” The doctor resides in Fort Wayne and his address will be well worth hearing, :

Henry Knoedler aged 84 of Fort Wayne committed suicide Friday by shooting himself through the head. A few weeks ago his wife died and he was to be taken to the ceunty farm.

Dies in Garrett Hospital.

Mrs. Irene Alheim age 38 wife of Boyd Alheim former resident of Kendallville died Thursday at the Sacred Heart hospital at Garrett death resulting from influenza an complications following a. critical illlness of several days. : The decedent was formerly Miss Irene Penroy of DJMishawaka. The family resided in Kecudallville several years until moving to a farm two miles east and one half mile south of Albion a few years ago. :

Fireman Overcome.

A Fort Wayne fireman was overcome by acid fumes in the basement of the E. A. Schott drug store during a blaze yesterday morning. The loss on the building is not heavy.

'This does not mean simply ‘school | children”; those in actual attendance but -all unmarried persons between the ages named who regard Ligonier as their home even though they may he away to school or coolege or temporarily absent from any cause whatIsm*ver says an authority. : *““This is a matter of direct interpst" to every resident of this city and it is important to secure full and coimplete enumeration. The money paid the Ligonier school city by the state is determined upon the basis of this enumeration. Last year our school city received from the source $5.65 for ‘each person enumerated. Death of John B. Brown.

John R. Brown 71 years old a prominent farmer residing about six miles southeast of Goshen in Clinton township died suddenly at his home at two o‘clock Saturday afternoon. He had been ill of influenzd and complications for the past two weeks but his condition was not considered so serious that death was expected .. Mr. Brown had lived in that vicinity most of his life - = ;

Lad Loses Eye,

Harold 7 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Menges of Bristol underwent an operation in Elkhart hospital for the remoal of one eye which was penetrated by a file that the boy was using as an arrow. 'He shot the file from his bow and it struck a tree and rebennded into his face. ~...

. A Cromwell resident called Police Chief Wolf on thep hone Friday to learn if a woman and boy had taken a train here for Toledo. The woman is charged with kidnapping a boy ten years old and a relative. ,

- It required but a few monrents at a special session Thursday evening for the city council to ratify the selection of J. B. Schutt as a representative of that body - from the Second ward, : ‘ . Mr. Schutt is the fourth representative selected from the Second ward in @ litlle more than three years. ~ Chester V. Joseph -was first elected and he'in a few weeks resigned. He was succeeded by A. N. Wertheimer who served but a few meetings when he tendered his resignatiéon. Then Lewis A. Palmer was chosen to fill the vicaticy and he served until his death less: than a month ago. . Mo, -Sch\itx who scceeds Mr. Palmer is the mecminee chosen by the republican party for the position to be voted on at the November election. Sehutt . - Allmembérs were present at the regular session Thursday night with Mayor Denning in the chair and Clerk Jeanneret (lity Attorney Vand"erford, Police Chief Woll Officer Bowén and Fraizkie Fisel of the water works in their stations. Garbage Master Notestine appeared to ask a readjustment of his salary. He was informed that his pay would be automatically increased $l6 a month heginning May 1.

‘City Treasurer Shearer reported the balance on hand as of April Ist at $14,700 in the gener:il fund and $4OO in the water fund. - The big-tank at the water works is to be répainted along with the tower and the matter of awarding the contracts for the work was left in the hatids of the-water works committee. It was unanimously agreed that the extension is necessary in order to comply with the rules of ‘the state board ofshealth governing toxxi—‘ ist camping groynds. - It was tacitally agreed that a fourinch main be laid from the- Keister garage to the city limits, a square and a half and from that point into the park a two-inch pipe be used. -The matter of the extension was left in the hands of the park committee with power to act. j .
