Clark” who it is alleged duped ' and swindled Mr. and Mrs. John Smith confessed booze runners of = Fort Wayne in that city ; last Tuesday evening by issuing a fraudulent check in'the amount of $550 in payment for, a large quantity of alcohol. i The case against Smith and wife charging them with the unlawful transportation of liquor :,vas‘,con‘tinued» until January 28 and the defendants were released on a cash bond of $lOOO. Suspicious were placed on at least two. persons who it is, believed issued the fraudulent chéck using the fictitious names of Prickett and Clark and since that time a search for the suspects has been carried ou. , Since the execution o fthe swindle plot investigation has revealed that a warrant is now being held at Columbia City for Smith’'s arrest charging him with transportating liguor. The charges were filed last summer following an automobile accident which oecurred three miles east of Columbia City 'in which Mr. and Mrs. Smith figured. S

- The safety signal has now been installed and in operation at the Railroad crossing at Pigeon Street. This is a signal to all motor and other vehicles- as there will be no crossing watchman on duty and the signal will be in use continually. The red light shows the approach of trains in the block forty five seconds to one minute before the passing of the train. Watch the signal and cooperat for “Safety” Aaron Urich- Station agent. «

Ligonier had occasion to take .notice of the burning of three -fiery K. K. K. crosses on Cavin street last Saturday night. The old burg has to be reminded cf her evil ways occasionally.—Goshen News Times. An x-ray examination disclosed no stomach ailment for Rev. J. F. Lutey Bad tonsils and a decayed tooth are held to be responsible for his illness and the causes. will be removed as soon as he is able to undergo the ordeal..

Death of Mrs., Potts.

"~ Mrs. Richard Petts aged 77 years pioneer resident of Rome City died at her home there at 9 o’clock Saturday night. Death resulted from complications and senility. : '
