Indications from Washington point to the naming of Thomas W. Slick of South Bend to the new federal judgship by President -Coelidge. Friends of Judges , Heaton Fort Wayne and Biggs of ligonier have filed strong petitions in their favor but it is understood Senator Watson and State Chairman Walb favor Slick.

It looks as through the aitempt of politicians of both parties Indiana to secure the repeal of the primary election law at the nands of the present legislature will fail. The voters generally may be trusted to name their candidates? for office instead of delegating the authority .to cheap politicians.
Daughter Gets Entire Estate
The entire estate of Gene Stratton Porter was left to her daughter Jean‘nette Porter Hehan. The estate is valued at $250,000 and the income is about $lO,OOO a year. A stringent blue law for« Indiana was sought in a bill introduced in the legislature by Representative W. H. Kissinger of Columbia City. Old Friends Meet. _ 1 Wilber W. Wood was here today from Ligonier and ‘called on a number ‘of his boyhood' friends of 50 years ago. We enjoyed a pleasant half hour’s visit with him in which he recalled many happenings of a half century ago including the burning of the Madison school building on January 18 1875. Mawhorter Funeral.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Mawhorter 76 of Kalamazoo Mich,, former resident of Elkhart township who died at the home of a daughter in eNwecastle were laid at the Baptist church -Cosperville Thursday afternoon at two o’clock Rev. F. R. Hill officiating. Mrs. Mawhorter was a resident of Nobel county 44 years ago but often visited her brother-in-law T. J. Mawhorter after leaving this vicinity. _
Circus May Winter in Goshen.
A new bidder for the plant of the Engman-Matthews Range company of Goshen has appeared. The Sparks Shows a circus which has exhibited in this section a number of times ijs seeking new' winter quarters and is considering the purchase of the plgnt for that puropse.
