NEW FEDERAL JUDGES

Indiana District Court Divided Into Seven Division Under Measure

What is known as the Hickey federal court bill has passed the U. S. senate with amendments and. it now goes back to the house for concurrence. The bill "provides for two judges bf the Indiana federal court and the district is divided into seven divigsions. Under provisions of the measure court will be held in Indiana-. polis Terre Haute, Evansville, New Albany, Hammand ~South Bend and Fort Wayne. The bill will reach thél president next week and if. he ..approves it the measure becomes a law. As Fderal Judge A. B. Anderson is'to be promoted to the district federal court in Chicago there will be two new judges to be appointed for Indiana. : : )

Mrs. William Quail received the news of the sudden death of her mother at Colorado Springs Colorado. Mr. Quail will join the funeral party Friday at Dana Indiana where she will be taken for burial.

There are very few nights during the week that Police Chief Wolf and Officer Bowen do not have lodgers at the city jail. .They come singly and in pairs and none are ever turned away. Last night a salesman traveling in an automobile brought an aged hobo to the city and after buying him a supper lodged him at the city hall. He presented his guest with new underwear including socks andlthis morning procured his charge a good breakfast and started to Chicago with him. As a general thing the visitors seeking lodging at the jail are of a rather low order of mendicant, but no questions are asked when the stragglers show up hungry and cold. :

Death of Mrs. Iden.

Paralysis caused the death Tuesday of Mrs. Samuel Iden 80 who resided wit hher daughter Mrs. D. B. Kerringer.at Winona Lake. She had been ill for sometime, She formerly resided in Bourbon. Funeral services will be held Friday at the United Brethren church in Etna Green with interment in the cemetery there. The deceased was a relative of the Ligonier Iden families. ;

Wants Salary Inereased.

A request from Dr. Henry N. Sherwood state superintendent of public instruction that his salary be increased from $5,000 to $7,5600 a year will be considered by the state budget officials and the state budget advisory committee it was said today. The request is contained in the budget submitted by the state department of public instruction for the next two years.

“Pud” Hanley 19, .a Fort Wayne youth was fined $5 and sentenced to 31 days on the county penal farm yesterday in court when ‘he admitted stealing $lB from the Sinclair Retining company filling station. Hanley is said to have looted the filling station safe when the attendant was outside waliting on a customer,

Michael J. Dunn 45 years old was killed Tuesday-.afternoon in a cavein while working on the Twin Branch power plant two miles east of Mishawaka. Fellow employees missing the man investigated and found him buried in the sand. ° e :

0. V. Borger had carpenters working Monday repairing the damage done to the W. A. Cochran house by fire Saturday evening as also making temporary repairs on the W. S. Rice house in Elkhart township damage by fire Saturday morning. -

Mr. and Mrs. Clair W. Weir were called to Galveston today by the illness of Mrs. Weir's father Rev. J. F. Lutey. hTe /reverend gentleman’s condition is not regarded as serious.

For the first time in the history of the ‘Noble circuit court a woman ‘has been drawn for jury service. Her name is Blanche Butler and she resides in Orange township.
