- Damage Suits Multiply. A second damage suit growing out o fthe tragedy at the Riley street crossing of the New York central railroad at Kendallville last January was filed Wednesday in the DeKalb circuit court with E. D. Diehl father of Irene Diehl as the plaintiff and the railroad company and Aaron Satvsky Auburn merchant the defendants. Mr. Diehl whose home is near Sherwood Ohio is demanding $lO,OOO for ‘the death of his daughter. hTe plaintiff sets out that his daughter was capable of earning $lOO a month and that she would have turned more than half of her earnings over to him. Ruth Squires last week filed suit agaipst the same defendants claiming $15,000 for her injuries. : Coroner L. F. Frurip of Kendallville who conducted an inquest into the accident exonerated Mr. Satovsky. :
Seeks Pardon From State Farm. Among the 42 cases to come before. the stateb oard of pardons at Indianapolis at the regular session December 8 to 12 will be that of Elmer R. Watson of Auburn formerly of Kendallville. Watson was arrested in Noble county for public intoxication and driving an automobile while intoxicated and was sentenced from the Noble Creunit court to the State Farm for a period of six months and assessed a $2OO fine October 16th. ngoniér Bests Mishawaka ‘'The Ligonier high school basketball team won a hard fought victory before a big crowd here Friday night when Mishawaka high school boys were deated b ythe close score of 22 to 20. tI was a good contest throughout with plenty of thrills for the spectators. , e The second team from Mishawaka defeated the Ligonier team after the main event. _ ‘ Next Friday night Ligonier goes to Nappanee .for a game.
Attempt at Robbery Fails, - An attempt to rob the Nebelung shoe store at Auburn was frustrated when broken glass falling to the side walk awakened guests at the Auburn hotel, which is across the street from the shoe store. Just a few minutes after two thieves entered the store a “lookout’ stationell outside the door velled “Beat it” The trio made their escape i nan automobile parked nearby. : : To Lose Sight of Eye. William E. Risser was in Fort Wayne Friday to consult a specialist concerning his eye which was seriously injured a week ago in an accident while driving a car. The sight of the eye will be lost but it is thought that the eyeball can be saved. : It will be recalled that a stone hurled through the Risser windshield by the Golden Fawn bus filled the man’s eye with shattered glass. .

Unless the practice is discontiaued ar[rests will be made. The law provides for a heavy penalty in this particular case. ' t Eyesight May Be Destroyed l June Culp three years old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Culp. living a mile south of Goshen who was badly burned when an oil lamp exployed last Tuesday evening is in a very serious condition. The child was bad1y burned about the face and hands ‘and her eye sight it is feared is destroyed. - Greeley M. Zimmerman will leave Wednesday for Riverview Florida to spend the winter with his daughter Mrs. “Capt’ ’Charles Green. Mr. Zimmerman spent last winter with another daughter Mrs. Harry B. Valuable Rings Stolen. Mrs. Nellie Hil lof Elkhart reported to police that two diamond rings were stolen from her home one of which she valued at $1 500 and the other at $5OO.
