Had the Indiana republican .state ticket been singled out by name, Ed Jackson's state organization in the Severin hotel at Indianapolis could {not have been more depressed than it was on receipt of the platform adopted by the New oYrk republican state convention, according to those on the inside' of political events in that quarter. : The barbed dart that said to have struck Indiara republican state headquarters was that section of the New York state platform that condemmned the ku klux klan by name. “If Theodore Roosevelt and New York republicans are right in their stand, then, |of course, Ed Jackson and his state ticket are entirely wrong’, said one republican. . Harry Daugherty is credited with ‘having pulled the greatest boner of the campaign so far when he wroie to Davis and criticized him for hs references to the relations existing beltween him and Means, enclosing a statement from® Means _ repudiating his testimony before the senate investigating committee, says the Columbia City “Post.f Daugherty thinks Means told the truth in his repudiation and lied to the committee. ' Virgil “Jack” Egolf entered a plea of guilty to a charge of selling intoxicating liquor in the Whitley circuit _eourt Thursday morning and was fined $lOO and costs apd sentenced to serve sixty days on the Indiana state penal farm. if Egolf is unable to pay the fine he will have to serve around 200 days before his sentence is completed. The sentence was imposed by Judge Biggs. : o The affidavit against Bgolf was filed August 14th of this year and he was arrested soon after by Sheriff Steel. The affidavit charged Egolf with selling liquor to Theodore Essig and Robert Trumbull two South Whitley lads, . - ~ Wants Pay for Broken Ribs, - Suit for $lO,OOO damages for broken ribs and one dislocated wrist, all due to an alleged embrace by Dr. Samuel W. Latham, chief examiner for the state industrial board and former mayor of Eldorado, 111., has been filed at Chicago by Mrs. Nellie O’Rieily 25, a stenographér. 0 _ | Mrs. O’Rielly charged that the doctor entered her office and made advances. In fighting him :she sustained three broken ribs and a dislocatiqn’ of her left wrist, she charged.

Hrampe local civill service secretary is looking into the question of whether a letter sent to emplcyees of the internal revenue service is a violation of the criminal code of the service law. “
The letter signed by Willis B. Dye chairman of the republican ways and | means committee of Indiana asked a donation of $5O from each employee. “If there has been a violation of the law this office will certainly take notice of it,” Homer Elliott district attorney announced. . ‘ The United States supreme court has held that soliciation by letter to a federal employee in a federal building received and read in the . building is a criminal offense. ' . Congress Only egislates, Senator Smith A. Brookhart lowa republican has sent a telegram to President Coolidge protesting the appointment of what he terms the “outside the law” agricultural commission and demanding an immediate special session of congress to provide farm relief. : “In the five years that we have had a similar commission there has been gathered a stack of data higher than you can reach.” Brookhart’s = telegram said ‘and yet nothing has been done for the farmers. The Mayor of Goshen makes the ‘following announcement: “The traffic ordinance requiring all traffic going north and south to come to a dead stop before crossing or coming upon the Lncoln Highway is now in force and effect and all drivers are now cautioned to observe this law, this ordinance means :stop and drivers must stop even if the highway is clear : Such an ordinance must be enacted for Ligonier to take effect after the new signs are erected on the Lincoln Ways and Cavin street. Drivers should be taught that stop means stop. o - From Hospital to Court. . John E. Hime of Elkhart is in General hospital there as a result of failing to notice that -South Third street’ in g)lkhart ends in a wall of the New York Central storehouse. Hime is said to have been intoxicated last night and hit the wall with sufficient force to 'wreck his car as well as to cause himself numerous cuts and bruises and possible inter-
nal injuries. ‘ : Upon his dismissal from the hospital he will be c¢harged with transporting liguor, public intoxication and driving a car while ntoxcated. ' Forty Chickens Stolen. , G. W. Jones of near Wawaka is endeavoring to establish a definite clue. which might lead to the arrest of the guilty person who last Saturday night, stole about 40 Plymouth Rock chickens from the poultry house on his farm.
