Young. : = Death of Claude Baker : Claude Baker aged thirty-six only ‘son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Baker died ‘as the result of an appendicitis operation in Goshen hospital Friday morning August 22 1924, The condition of the unfortunate young man had heen very serious for several days. Claude Baker was born in Sparta township was educated in the schools there and spent his entire life on a farm there. He was industrious and of fine character and drew about him many friends who with many relatives are left to mourn. : i
Surviving are his widow a son and daughter and his parents and a sister. The sympathy.of the community goes out to the bereaved relatives. .
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from the Sparta Christian church( Rev. Page officiating. The remains will be laid in the Sparta cemetery,
Better Crop Than Wheat
Victor Niles a farmer residing near Lake Wawasee has found his crop of grasshoppers more profitable than some of his farm crops. rGasshoppers are much in demand for bait at the lake and Niles has standing orders for about- 800 grasshoppers each day. He sells the hoppers at 1 cent each and realizes a profit of about $8 a day. He catches the hoppers at night using a. strong flashlight. ' ;
Deserted Baby Dies,
With the death of Bessie Jones 20 months old at Logansport today officers have intensified their search for her parents Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Jones who they state abandoned their three small children 10 days ago. The.child was in a critical condition suffering with infantile paralysis when the parents deserted their babies physicians declare. :
Heavy Fire Loss.
Fire destroyed two barns two sheds and the year’s crop of wheat oats and hay on the farm of William Schmidt on thq Leesburg road seven miles west of iFrt Wayne Thursday. The fire it is thought started from Spontaneous combustion of hay in ‘the mow of one barn from which it rapidly spread to the other buildings.
New Track Record.
Edward F. (Pop) Geers ‘driving Peter Manning in an exhibition aginst timeb roke the world’s record for trotters on a half mile track at the Interstate fair at South Bend Thursday afternoon when he made the mile in 2:02%%. The previous record for trotters on a half mila course was 2:033.

Eldridge Peters 21 son of Mr. and Mrs. (Eldridge Peters of Union township Whitley county was wounded by his own revolver in an accident. Peters was piling up stone on his farm. He had a,loaded revolver in his. pocket and it dropped out on the ground, striking on the trigger. The gun was discharged and the bullet struck Peters below his left elbow shattering the ulna bone. Man, Kicked by Horse Dies.
Injuries received when Kkicked on the head by a horse last Friday evening caused the death of Chester Faulkner age fifty-three farmer living on the Union Chapel road in Perry township Allen county. Mr. Faulkner was working in a field on his farm at the time of the accident and when he failed to return to his home Friday evening his children investigated and found him injured.
Entertain Dinner Party.
. Mesdames Lyman Kilmer and W. C. B. Harrison entertained wit ha dinner party at the Diamond lake cottage Friday. The guests were Mesdames George 'W. Nusbaum, George Kilmer, Will H. Clay, Henry Freed, Bert Layer, Ralph Walters and the Misses Virginia Freed and Augusta Lehman Wakarusa and Miss Lillian Kronk of Goshen. The afternoon was spent in a social way.
Fingers Are Cut Off.
Lester Parker the eighteen' year old son of Mr. and Mrs. S. I. Parker of Howe was painfully injured about ten o’clock Weednesday forenoon when his hand was caught in a bexing machine at his father’s faétory. The two middle fingers of his right hand were cut off at the first joint and the index <and little fingers were cut slightly at the tips. '
Kick By Horse Fatal.
Injuries received when kicked on the head by a horse last Friday eaused the death of Chester Faulkner 53 of near Fort Wayne. He was born in DeKalb county. He is survived by a widow -and seven children. :
Heavy Death Toll
Thirty deaths in automobile accidents was the toll in Indiana for the week closing last Friday and this harrowing list in the face of all precaution taken by organizations to prevent them.
Harry Kegg in Hospital.
Harxy Kegg of Warsaw is in a hospital there suffefing from obstruction of the bowels. He was unable to attend the funeral of his brother’s wife, Mrs. Walter Kegg last Thursday.

LaFollette electors have been named for Indiana on petition of 500 voters. The one selected for the Twelfth congressional district is E. B. Henzly of Fort Wayne. ; :
