At Detroit in the heart of the Ford industries another step was taken today to link these great manufacturing plants more closely and securely with the source of raw materials when-the Ford Motor Company's second steel freighter, the Benson Ford, was launched at the ship yards of the Great Lake Engineering Works. The ship is named after Henry Ford’s grandson Benson second sop of Edsel B. Ford. The new vessel will go into service about July 15th joining. the Henry Ford II which was laumched about twe months ago and will c¢arry iron org from the Ford mines in northern }Michiga,n to the great blast furnaces at the River Rouge plant of the cph | pany. On trips from Detroit the b‘é‘ilts§ ‘will carry Ford coal to the uper pen{ insula "of Michigan. : _ ' The Ben Ford which will be one of the largest lake freighters is of standard type lake bulk freight steamer design 612 feet over all, with a 62 foot beam and a cargo carrying capaeity of 13,000 tons. It will carry a crey) .of approximately forty men. | Like the Henry Ford II it is a motor ship operated by a Diesel engine of the Sun-Doxford two-cycle type which will develop 3,000 horse-power "j["gnks with a capacity of 300 tons will carry fuel oil for the operation of the main engines and the auxiliary Diese] motors which will drive the electric generators to.provide electric current for the operation of the many pumps and auxiliaries. . .

_Mrs. H. B. Burk was very pleasantly reminded of her birthday anniversary Sunday June 8. Her chiidren that came home for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Moorman and daughter Martha Ellen of Kokomo, Mrs. 0. V. Brock of Elwood and Mr. and Mrs. I. C. Snow and daughter of Blkhart. A lovely dinner was spread and enjoyed by all. One main feature of the menu being ice cream and Angel food cake. The cake being bak-. ed by a - granddaughter - Miss Nora Brock of Elwood. Mrs. Burke received beantiful ‘and useful gifts. In the evening all left for their homes except the. daughter from Elwood wha will be a guest at the Burk home for a few days. ‘ -

Robbers- entered the Donchin store at North Judson Wednesday night and stripped nearly the entire establishment of its stock of merchandise consisting of clothing. The value of the loot secured by the robbers is estimated at $B,OOO. Two trucks parked a block away from the business section of the town were loaded with thc merchandise. ' . :

Mrs. C. R. Graves who 'spent the winter in Florida is home and wil soon go to Rome City for the summel where she operates cottages. Mrg Graves accompanied by her grandsor Tommy Graves made the trip from St Petersburg to Ligonier in forty-sever hours, and had an enjoyable journey

U. S. District Attorney Homer Elliott announced his intention of re signing about Sept 1. No reason for the resignation was given by Mr. EL liott other than that he had decided tc resume a private law practice.

mprovement On me;nty-ilig‘!mays to be Made With Gravel In Four Townships .

- The June session of the board of county commissioners was ' devoted principally to - road impgovements. Four petitions for roads were. granted. They include the Fred Peters road in York and the John Ridenouer, Carl Frick and Ed Resler roads, Elkhart township all to be improved with gravel, Viewers on these roads have been appointed. All of the roads are less than 3 miles lope, =~ ~ The Vongorder road.in Allen township was ordered vacated and the report of the viewers approved. Work on the road will be started soon. The. viewers on the Lower road in Elkhart township have qualified. and wili inspect the .road. . - George Steinbarger has been: appointed superintenednt of construction on the Edward €. Moore gravel road in Orange township. ' The question of improving the county line road between-N()b‘le and LaGrange counties was discussed but ng definite action taken. - E. L. Becker was awarded the contract for resurfacing the Shambaugh road in Green township with eravel. . George Berry of oßnre City was appointed justice of the peace of Orange township by the commissioners.

" When David Davidson of Cleveland aged 38 was driving with his wife and little child ‘in' South Main street af Elkhart Thursday afternoon he suddenly became paralyzed and sank back in the seat losifig control of the car. : : e The car crashed into the front of the Ira Albright grocery and though Mr. Dadidson suffered no. further injury. his wife in jumping from the car ang alighting on the street car track received a slight scratch on the hand. McCray Prosecutors Allowed $4,250 Clarence W. Nicols special prosecutor in the trial of Warren T. M¢Qray in criminal court on a charge of larceny and -embezzlement of $155,000 from the state board of agriculture, and Eph Inman special deputy in the cast were each allowed s4,§s’O for services by Judge H. 0.
