| Several Counties Inundated. , ~ Hamilton, Tipton and Howard counties were almost- inundated by . the heavy downpour of rain last Thursday night and nearly all the streams were out- of their banks. While returning from Indianapolis Friday a Banne: representative not_fliced that the streets of Noblesville, Tipton and Kokomet were full of water and many lowland fields looked ilke lakes. The water standing in corn fields will no doubi seriously damage the crop. It was said that in Noblesville at one time the water stood nearly three feet in depth. - : X
Get Landing vield.
In preparation. for the transcontinental air mail service which is tc start July 1 the postoffice department is establishing emergency landing fields at Ashley Wolcottville and Goshen in Indiana. They will be equipped,with the same type of illumination now being used on . similar fields on the existing airway between Chicago and Cheyenne. The beaconswill be revolving and have a visibility on eclear nights of thirty miles. - .
Engagement Announnced
Miss Marie Jennings formerly of Rome City and now of Los Angeles Cal, announced her engagement to Howard T. Crossley June 1. She wa graduated from the southern branch of Berkeley university this year. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee S. Jennings who for a number of years resided at Rome Ci‘y. Mr. Jennings was engaegd in the grocery business until the family moved west three years ago. ; 2ot :
Charge is Dismissed.

A charge of assault with intent tc¢ commit murder filed against Bruce Banta o fnear Middlebury was dismissed on motion of the prosecuting attorney at Goshen Friday. - Banta a former well known resident of ILigonier had a quarrel ‘with a neighbor over some stosk which broke into his field -which resutled in the eharge being lodged against him.
Runaway Prisoner is Wounded
Albert R. Cecil 50 was probably fatally wounded at Logansport when he was shot-by Ralph Short' motor-(-5(1:1(1 policeman after a chase of several miles during which a total of nirfe shots were exchanged according to police. Cecil intoxicated escapec drove towards Logansport where drove towards oLgansport where Short ordered Cecil to stop.
Confiesses to Mail Eobbery.
James Johnson, of Columbia City, age 26, who was arrested Memorial Day, confessed that he and another man recently stole twe sacks of mail at Lima, Ohio, and made their getaway.! He said he came here intending To rob the Pennsylania station. Fedéral officers returned him to Ohio.

Jury Speedily Secured.
. A Jjury in the trial of Thomas Hildebrand former cashier of the First National Bank of Columbia City in Federal Court was obtained in fifteen minutes at Indianapolis. Hildebrand is charged with shortage of approximately $347,000 uncovered a year ago:

Athletes of the Albion high school won the annual county track and field meet Wednesday at Albion over three other competing schools scoring @ total of 32 points. Kendallville was |second with 20 points; Wawaka thir( with 1 and Ligonier failed to garner a fcount. By virtue of winning the meet Albion was awarded the 4 by 6 green and white pennant. Jail Delivery at Fort Wayne.
.J. BE. Harring age 29 who it is alleged robbed the Dygert second hanc store in. Fort Wayne April 25 after holding up John Haag aged clerk escaped from the Allen county jail 'P[llxrsrla}’ afternoon together with Ray Liamont charged with petit- larceny and Ralph Shanks charged with loitering. Herring was captured al Columbus O. May 8 and brought back to that city for trial. The loofi stolen in the holdup was valued at $2,000.
