If anyone tries to trade castles in thé - air for your hard earned dollars, tell them you are going to ask your ~ banker. o The money you have saved represents, probably, years of toil and selfdenial. HARRISON Editor Published every Monday and Thursday and entersd in the Postoffice at Ligonier, Ind., as second class matter. e ettt e e ettt e 7 ‘ BETTER UNDERSTANDING . A a result of the shaking up given the Ligonier Chamber of Commerce members administered by W. W president of the organization, the commerce body came to a better understanding of its functions and found expression at the Hotel Ligonie: meeting last ‘Thursday évening, President ‘Wood made it plain that there is to ‘be no pussyooting = nor evasion of facts indealing with the material welare of this city. Therc must be a united effort on the part of citizens of the town if the community is to grow and prosper. The Chamber of Commerce can accomplish little as an organization whei opposed and discouraged by residents outside. The question is frequently asked, ‘“What has the Chamber ol Commerec accomplished? It is proper to,ask, “What has the critic done to further the interests of his home community?’ ‘When residents of s
town hang back and find fault with fefforts put forth to sustain the city and build up its industries and population the situation is discouraging to any organized commercial body. At Thursday nights meeting of the com mercial body a committee was appointed to extend the membership. Every business and professional man in the city should hold membership in the Chamber of .Commerce and | there are many who have retired whe {do not belong but should. Tie Cham|ber of Commerce ‘with its limited [ membership only forty-one participants, is laboring under on almost in- ' surmountable handicap, but under the inspiration of President Wood’s admonitions it is felt that prospects will brighten.
VERY TRYING POSITION Senator Watson has been named chairman- of a committee to probe alleged irregularities .if ‘not criminal practices of the revenue bureaun Think .of the spectacle of Qur Own James Eli Watson being selected for a post which may uncover crookedness in a republican ‘department of the federal government! The spéc! tacle is both trying and amusing. Watson, if within his power will shield his party members to the extent of perjury if need be. He cannot help
himself. He is built that way. | Those of 'the Banner readers who reCa -famous Colonal Mulhall disclosures in which Mr. Watson was involved will have no difficulty in fixing his number. Watson is associated with George Lockwood and ‘others in the publication of the National Republican a paper which has lost nc effort in trying to nullify the effect of the oil lease investigation and the official inquiry into the official conduct of 'Atto‘x“ney General Daugherty. If Senator “Watson can prevent it there will be no scandal uncovered in the revenue bureau investigation im‘plicating republicans,. :
AN APPALLING STATE. ‘ With Fall and Denby driven from office and Daugherty on the point of being kicked out the record of the Harding cabinet, pronounced the strongest ever assembled, is anything but enviable. Had one single instance of official corruption been found under the¢ Wilson administra) the republican press would have emblazoned it upon the skies, yet with all the rottenness exposed in republican official circles the democratic press has been mild in its criticism. There has been nothing like the fraud lent transactions perpetrated -by the republicans in the past three years since the scandals of the McKinley administration, and it is high time than the whole putrid bunch was driven into retirement or the peni: tentiary. Even in our own state thd chief magisrate is called upon to defend himself in court today. I
