A speeding east bound tourist had a close call Thursday as well as did Gordon Henney driver of one of the road graders engaged in improving the Toledo-Chicago pike east of this city. The tourist who was driving quite fast struck loose gravel and his car plunged to the roadside near where teamsters were working. The machine struck Henney’s horse injuring it and damaging the grader quitc badly, The radiator of the automobile was damaged. The mgtorist who realized he was at fault offered to pay all damages and gave his name and address saying he would - make good any other damages that might be incurred in the event the injuries to ‘the horse proved fatal.
Observes Master’s Interest.
Joke the Airdale dog of Dr. F. C. Hardy at Kendallville may land in the police station one of these days and be compelled to answer to a charge of robbery. The other day _tihe canine which shows considerable intelligence and is able to perform a series o funique stunts and play hideand go-seek was seen ' running towards his master with a purse in his mouth. At first Dr. Hardy paid little attention to the purse, but finally making an examination learned it contained several "dollars in change and some bills, Sortly afterwards it was ascertained the purse had been lost on the steret by Elmer Bartlett and was later returned to him.

A temporary sawmill = had been ‘erected on the Lower farm to cut up ‘so'me timber and Mr. Lower was as‘'sisting in operating it when he. suffered a dizzy spell and started to fall, He stuck out his foot to protect himself and the heel caught on the revolving blade, which cut right through the heavy shoe and fairly splint his foot in two. :

One of the lgrgest moonshine stills} ever found in St. Joseph county was discovered by Prohibition Enforcement Officer Asa Elliott and Deputy Sheriff "Walter Doan in a vacant house on a farm off Lincoln highway west. of South Bend. : It was of 150 gallon capacity, Another still of 50 gallon capacity was also: found in the same house as were 20. barrels of mash and 400 pounds/ of sugar. S ; % .Frank Dowry of South Bend who according to the officers admitted ownership of the stills was placed under arrest. e S —— d - Two Murder Suspects- Taken. Clarence Brown colored of Chica: go and John S. Shea of Elkhart are being held by South Bend police in connection with the murder of Sherifi William Vancamp of Franklin county in Brookville Tuesday. ! The two mep were apprehended by police and detectives on the Lincoln highway east of New Carlisle. - The men were in a Dodge sedan under stood to have ‘been stolen by the two. men who murdered Sheriff Vancamp, and they will be held for a full in-| vestigation in an efort to learn who the murderers are.
