25 Per Cent Tax Raise,
. A 25 per cent horizontal increase of the valuation on household goods and automobiles in DeKalb county has been ordered by the state board of tax commissioners, The oredr affects ev’er;s.-,ta;'ing unit in- the county. It is estimated that if the county board follows the recommendations of the state board the units affected will aggregate an increase of $350,000.
Milo Thomas Injured.
Milo J. Thomas well known merchant and banker of Corunna severely strained the ligaments of his arm and was otherwise painfully bruised Monday in a fall from a step-ladder. Mr. Thomas had ascended the ladder to pick 'a few plums from a tree The ladder broke causing him to fall to the ground, The gentleman is quite well- known in Ligonier where he often visits F. E. Weir. ;
Bandits Shoot Sheriff,
‘Sheriff William Van Camp: of Franklin county was shot to death by two bandits in an automobile eight miles east of Rockville according to word telephoned to his deputies. The bandits opened fireé on the sheriff when he attempted to stop them and examine their car, which he believed was .a stolen one.: The car bore an Ohio license.. ;
Game Laws Aid School Funds.
Convictions for violations of fish and game laws obtained by game wardens of the state conservation department in July . brought (fines amount to $3,086.15. Money from such fines goes into the school fund in. the counties where prosecutions are made. :
Kill Rattle Snake.
Leon Wort and Charles Grate of Kendallville killed a rattle snake which measured three feet in length at Little Long lake the other day. Six large rattlers were removed from the tail. : ;
