Burglars Busy in Whitley. -

< Burglars erre' busy in Whitley county last week. Two business places in Columbia City were visite: without much loss. L The W. J. Deems general store ani drug dispensary at Laud was robbec The proprigtor upon entering the store found it had been thoroughly ransacked papers from the safe being scattered about the floor while the stock was out of order. Investigation showed the robbers had forced open a rear door where they had parked a truck on wihchf they made- their es cape. They carried with them ci gars,ltobac;’co, cigarets and candy all the sugar in stock overalls two pairs of shoes and numereus other articles totaling in all: about $4OO. About $2 all remaining in the cash drawer was taken. : ‘

President Coolidge has spent much of his life on a Vermont farm and ha: indicated that he intended to intre duce farm hours at the White House. Whitfield Gets Life Sentence,

John L. Whitfield was found guilty of first degree murder with a recom mendation of mercy by the jury at Cleveland 0., Thursday. - John Phit lups sentenced him to life imprison ;m'ent in the Ohio penitentiary. The jury comprising nine men and three }women deliberated eight hours. Death of Mrs. Zimmerman-

Mrs. Laura Zimmerman aegd 54 years wife of Steve Zimmerman died Thursday morning at her: home in Kendallville. Death was due to 1 complication of diseases .and following a critical illness of nearly a year’s duration. Surviving besides the husband are two daughters and three sons by a previous marriage. .
