HIS LAST PRONOUNCEMENT President Harding {in his last pronouncement placed himself in a high er plane than was indicated in any of his previous public papers. His address to have been delivered at San Francisco on his return from Alaska and given to the press after becoming too ill to deliver it will live in his -tory as the gospel of peace. No matter what his attitude may have been in the . past year nor what his utterances may have been on our foreign relations in the San Francisco pronouncement he came oul squarely in favor of the court of inter ‘national justice created by the lea gue of nations. There is no doubt: but that the president was influenced by the politicians jof his party, hamp ered and embarrassed by the conflict ing elements who tried to dominate and shape his course and to promote party interest as they saw it intheit | divergent lights. L
He'no doubt at times permitted his friends, presuming upon the kindli ness of his nature, to present the reai sentimnet of his mind and heart but removed from thése influences ani after a sojourn in the Alaskan wilds he came back with a.gufpose to advo cate the things in whigg he firmly be: lieved and as a resul¥/he gave to the word a document which is a chartel of civilization and a testament of the higher aims which should animatc
‘mankind. ' o : | While the voice of President Hard ing is stilleq his words written into the the history of his country will live on through the ‘ages and exert a po tent inflyence for peace and good will among men. ' s These United States are peopled at this moment with those whose heads are bowed in grief over the untimely taking of a truly good man of one who occupied with beeoming dignity yet commendable humility the highest po sition in the gift of any people in the world: = ' : But in the language of a great American “God Reigns and the Govern ment at Washington Still Lives.”
