B, History (From Goshen News Times) Base Bsgll proved a dismal failure to Noble ‘county magnates this year and as a result when Kendallville and Ligonier backers threw up the sponge last week losses amounting to in excess of $l,OOO was debited on the banks. At thes tart the Kendallville backers endeavored to install one of the highest salaried teams in this section, but instead of having a high class team in the field the jinx class appeared and only two games were ‘won. iLgonier fared somewhat better in the win, and loss percentage ‘columns than the other Noble county town, but in proportion dropped just as much money. . i ‘Pudge’ Renbarger local boy played with Kendallville as did: Herman Sack, McMurriel and ‘Rube’ Adams former Greys while Bill Pratt, Goshen veteran held forth for several games with Ligonier which was piloted by Walter Rex, who at one time wore a Goshen uniform when Gus Fogel was at the helm. Renbarger is now covering the third sack for Milford in the Tri-County league which was or .ganized about two weeks ago.

When an automobile in which he was bringing twenty cases of ,beell into that city skidded in loose gravel and crashed into a fence eight miles north of Fort Wayne Thursay John Strapos: former proprietor of a lunch room there was taken to the eity lockup. | i o - Arraigned in the city court later on a charge of transporting .liquor continuancé until August 7 was granted. His bond was fixed at $5OO. When questioned Strapos said he did not know where he got the beer or where he was taking it. . Manslaughter is Charged. A warrant charging Elmer J. Culp of Goshen with manslaughter the re: sult of Jane six year old daughter of Merle -Gochenour of Warsaw an -attorney having been killed when she. was struck by an automobilé driven by Mr. Culp in Warsaw July 24 1921, was ‘sérved Thursday night by Milo Maloy sheriff of Kosciusko county. : Peter Was Swindled. - Peter Bonfield fruit dealer at Goshen lost $25 when he was swindled by a check artist.. The stranger represented himself as an agent for the Adrian Wire Fence Co., and rented an office room of Bonfield for $25 a month. He gave Bonfield a bogus check for $5O to pay for the first month’s rent and Bonfield gave him $25 in cash g %

Misses Edna and .Jennie Taggart of Kendallville left Friday for Pasadena Cal., where they expect to make their future home. Miss Edna has been a teacher in the local schools for several years for a time in Ligonier and plans to follow that vocation in the west. LS . Has Both Arms Broken. - Sanford Smith age eighteen slipp ed while sffnding on the top of a high diving pier at the municipal bathing beach in Warsaw Tuesday and suffer’ ed fractures of both arms above the wrists when he struck the float below. : : Seft Drink' Places Closed. Seventezn alleged soft drink places have beem closed in and near South Bend on a temporary injunction issued by the court. The places will remain closed until a hearing is had September 24 when the temporary injunction may be made permanent. ~ 1 . Brill Fractures Arm. i Melvin Brill suffered a fracture of both bones in his right arm between! the wrist and elbow the other day in a fall from a ladder. He was engaged in picking cherries at the Ed Crockett place when the accident occurred. S ;

~ GENERAL ORDINANCE No, 76. | In xgfiatiqn to sanitation and health: | .Be it ordained by the Common] Council of the City of Ligonier, Noble County, Indiana: ' Section 1: That it shall be unlaw-| ful and it shall be a nuisance, for any personm, persons, company or| corporation to erect, construct, cause, permit,. keep or maintain within the corporate limits of the City of Ligonier, Noble County, Indiana, anything whatever which is injurious ta health, or indecent or offensive to the senses, or an obstruction to the free use of property, and any person or persons maintaining any nuisance as above set forth is declared to be} the author and maintainer of a nuisance. n
Section 2: That it shall be unlawful for any person or persons, com-" pany or corporation, to throw or deposit, or suffer to be thrown or deposited or suffer or permit any child, servant. member of family, or any other under his her or.their contrel,| to. throw or deposit any manure, rub-| bish, slops, putrid or unsound animal or vegetable matter, or any filthy, noisome or unwholesome liquid or slops or any liquid or slops or substances that are liable fo become unwholesome, in or upon any street, lane alley sidewalk, gutter, crossing, lot, cellar premises or common, or to allow any rank weeks to grow and remain uncut, on any ground ‘within the corporate limits tof said city of Ligonier. 5 ~ Section '3: That it shall be unlaw- | ful and it shall be a nuisance for any person, persons company. or corpora-| ‘tion, to permit, keep - or maintain within the corporate limits of sail city of Ligonier any noisome or overflowing wvault or privy. : Section 4: That all vaults shall be emptied, cleaned and disinfected, ‘and weeds shall be cut and haulel away at any time upon the writtea lorder of the health officer; said offieer shall fix a reasonable time limit in his order when such vaults shall be emptied, cleaned and disinfected and when weeds shall be cut and hauled away and if any owner or lessee, being duly ordered as hereini provided, shall fail or refuse to obey said order; it shall be the duty of th 2 street commissioner upon written notice from the health officer, to | cause - said vaults to be cleaned, emptied and disinfected, or ' the weeds cut and hauled away and sail street commissioner shall keep an accurate account of .the expense thereof which shall be paid from the city treasury upon the sworn youcher of the street commissioner, and said expenses shall be lien on the property of the person, persons, company or corporation on ‘which said work is done, shall be duly certified and placed upon the tax duplicate and collected by law and turned into the city treasury. ‘ ‘Section 5: The secretary of the city board of health, who is also city health officer, all deputy health officers and the city police, shall have full power and authority to enter into or upon any street, lot, alley, premises or ground, for the purpose of making. a sanitary’ survey of the same, and if a nuishnce or any un'.-k; sanitary conditions are found, it shall be the duty of the city health officer, when informed of the exist~‘ ence of the same, to immediately notify in writting the person," persons, firm or corporation so offending, to abate the nusiance and to fix a time limit for such abatement. If such person; persons, company or corporation shall fail or refuse to abate the nuisance within the time specified, it ‘shall be the duty of the street commissioner upon written notice of the health ‘officer, to cause the same to be abated, keeping an accurate . account of the expense thereof, which 'shall be paid from the city treasury upon the sworn voucher ‘of the street commissioner, and said expenses shall be a lien on the property of the person, persons, .company of corporation, on which said work is done, shall be duly certified and placed upon the -tax '3uph‘cate and collected by law and turned into the city treasury. Section 6: That it shall be the ‘duty of the city police, at all times, upon demand of the health officer, to aid said city health officer in the ‘work of enforcing this ordinance, | .
