. What proved a very serious accident for Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Wurtenburg, of. Elkhart, occurred -a lil’ tle ‘way out on Lincoln Way South about nine’'o’clock Saturday evening _when'-a- motorcycle with sidecar ‘in which they were riding collided’ with a horse and buggy driven by Don ' Adair, son of a Noble county commissioner, and a young companion. Mrs. Wurtenburg. riding =in the " side car suffered concussion of thc brain and her husband who was oD-. erating the motorcycle at a high rae ot speed, had-a badly fractured le’t leg as a result of 'the impact. The buggy was wrecked, ‘the harness stripped from the horse with no in: jury to the animal and the boys who reside near Ormas escaped with 2 . shock. - = : ‘Mr. and’ Mrs. ‘Wurtenberg! were taken to Dr. Lane’s emergency hos- , pital rooms and with the assistancc - of Dr. Black surgical attention was rendered them. Sunday they were removed to their home in: Elkhart 11 the Kerr ambulance. = <« | ° . Mr. and Mrs. Wurtenberg hadl started for Columbia 'City and_ Fort ‘Wayne on a visit and"did not see th 2 light vehicle ahead of them on the highway before the wreck occurred. Their motorcycle is in the Lincoln . Highway garage for repairs. ‘ Mrs. Waurtenberg was not -conscious much of -the time up to last night and her injuries may prove fatal. The injured man is employed - as a moulder in the Chicago Haradware foundry in Elkhart. He wiil be laid up.some weeks. . - .7 ..
Fails- to Make Bond, Jail
Unable 'to furnish bonds ih the amount ,of $2,000 Merle Eichman ot Kendallville who was arrested Tuesday 'evening after evading officials in ‘lndiana, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois for over four weeks was taken to Albion Thursday evening by .Sheriff Chas Black where he will be held:in Noble county jail. Quite a number of Noble county farmers began wheat havesting todaz. May Be Paved Next Year.

Some much nreeded work is being idone on the Toledo-Chcago known as the Blazed Trail pike ‘between Brimfield and Kendallville in the nature of widening the road in several places by removng old stumps, rocks and so forth at places where heretofore it ha§ been dangerous for two cars to pass. If the state high: way commission will now see that all bridges: culverts and the like are made wide enough for meeting cars to pass they will have done something really worth -while thinks @ the Albion Déemocrat as there is nothing much more dangerousi than a one way “bridge. In pursuance of an annual custom Louis Kahn will close his shirt factory "al lthis week to give the employees a much needed vacation. The plant has been operated steadily for a year and the grind is telling on the operators and Mr. Kahn is a gentle taskmaster who keeps close watch on the health and spirits of his people. Police Chief Engle Places Maniac in - Cell After Vicious Assault is "Made On Two Men
Louis Wiseburg, traveling from Pittsburg, Pa., to South Bend in a Reo touring car driven by John Secheer of the Pittsburg Taxi Co., became demented when Kendallville was reached and during the drive to Ligonier began striking his driver. It seems that a dispute arose over who should pay the expenses. Wiseburg yesterday morning engaged a car and driver to take him to South Bend where a brother operatés the Oliver hotel He deposited a check for $lOO with the taxi compa.ny] and agreed to pay 25 cents a mile for his fare. The parties left the sm‘ok)'l city at 5 o’clock Sunday evening ’apd.l arrived in Ligonier about 10 o’clock making a stop of only a few minutes in Cleveland for something to eat. Scheer the driver had no cash with him, claiming his passenger had agreed to.pay all expenses. Wiseburg also was without money and it was necessary to borrow oil on the way. The trouble between the men started at Kendallville where four gallons of gasolene were obtained. = i When Ligonier was reached Wiseburg left his car with the driver and engaged George Foster to take him to South Bend. When Mr. Foster learned something of the circumstances he demanded his pay in advance and Wiseburg struck at him. [lt was then that Police Chief Engle took the madman to jail where he proceeded to break up thec hairs and dash out the windows. . : : ‘ ‘A telephone message to the Oliver hotel bromght the information that the brothér of Wiseburg would arrive here for him this afterncon and pay all damages. Scheer cannot return to Pittsburg . until his employers wire him money unless the South Bend man settles with him. ]
Tenth Wedding Aniversary.

Welt of Detroit Mich., guests at the South Shore Inn celebrated their tenth wedding anni»i‘ versary Sunday evening at a seven o’clock dinner, The guests included nine friends from - Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Simon Straus of Chicago and Ligonier; Mr. and M*&cobs and Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Levy*of Indianapolis.. -Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Hepler of South Bend have taken the J. E.McDonald Cottage at Wawasee for six weeks. The Harry and Walter - Stansbury families of the same city will spend a part of the time with them. Goshen filftrict pastors of the Meth« odist Epistopal church met at Warsaw Wednesday to go' over detail plans for a campaign to raise $150,000. to be: placed in reconstruction, expansion, equipment and ' nurses’ home to the M. E. hospital '‘at Fort Wayne, Last year charity work estimated. at $17,000 was done and the hospital never closed its door to any class sect or creed. .. & Dr. A. G. ‘Wants $l,OOO Damages.
A suit for $l,OOO judgment is being tried 'in the DaKalb circuit court with Freeman Moore, ‘of near Cromwell the plaintiff and' Joseph Moore of Garrett the defendant. The trial is the outgrowth of an accident occurring June 26, 1920, on the Lincoln highway southedst of Ligonier. The plaintiff said the cars collided near the intersection of the Lincoln highway and the T. & C. pike, and that the defendant was at fault for driv-{ ing on the wrong side of the highway. 'The defendant contends the cars met at the junction of the poads; | that he stopped his car and that the plaintiff had plenty of time to stoy his car and prevent a collision. Freeman Moore had a new. seven pasenger Buick and was on his way to Ligonier when the accident hanp‘pened. He had nine pasengers in his car. He told the jury|that the left side of the:frame of his car was bent, the radiator broken, left front wheel broken and the fender, headlight| shock absorber and axle were dam - age. The value of the car before the accident was placed at $1,700 and at ter the accident it was worth only| $5OO according to Maurice Miller garage proprietor of Cromwell who re: paired thec ar. J. Cole and others vs. the Noble county board o;“'commi_s'_sion’ers. The action was taken following the filing of a petition for a reheariu?,by the plaintiffs. Attorneys in the case stated today that a petition will now probably be filed for a he'at[ping in the supreme court. Beer in Truckloads Seized.
. Two trucks carrying 39 barrels of} beer 1,482 gallons were seized at LaPorte by Sheriff Frank Fosdick and Chief of police Alfred 'Norris. The drivers William Van Sleet of La-: Porte and his brother Arthur Van Sleet of Chicago were arrested. The beer was -intended for.
