Ds to Entertain Wives., : “Ladies Night” will be observed bv the Northeastern Indiana Academy of Medicine ot the next regular meeting of the organization to be held at the Auburn Fotel, Auburn Ind., Thursday May 31. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p. m. and the program of the evening will include two addresses one on the subject “Backache” by Dr W. E. Big Crop Promised.

In spite of the continued cold weather the strawberry crop in Noble county wili be a “bumper” according to growers. The usual early consignment of shipped in berries has been on the local market for some time. Owing to the fact that plants of local gardeners are. continuing to bloom the crop will not be injured it is reported. The berries this year are of unusually fine flavor. :

Four Tires Stolen.

- Some thief who leftyhis footprints plainly on the ground entered the Arthur Yeager garage on the North Side the other evening and stole two tires from his truck and two from-his Ford touring car. The thief left someof his tools on the ground and Mr Yeager says he may recover them b~ calling and paying for this notice. .

Ask $50,000 For Eye

A judgment of $50,000 for the loss of an eye is demanded by Harry F. Pierce in a suit filed in the DeKalb circuite ourt against the B. & 0. Railroad company. Pierce was working on a lathe at Garrett when a piece of metal from a /locomotive tire struck him in the eye, impairing his sight.

‘ It Don’t Mean Much.. The indictment against Nie Sheffer for murder of his sister-in-law, Cora Sheffer has been dropped in the DaKalb circuit court. Sheffer is now safely incarcerated in thes taté penitentiary at Michigan City for life after being found guilty of murdering his brother.. e pug

John Himes has sold his second hand store building and grounds:on East Third street to William L. Jaekson and the new proprietor got possession this morning. Sam Clawson will operate the busines for Mr. Jackson. s |

. Death of Catholic Priest. The Rev. Father W illiam Rathor aged about 32 years of the St. Joseph Catholic church LaPorte died at the Kneipp sanitarium Rome City where he had been a patient the past two weeks. Death was due 'to uremice poisoning. , e

Mrs. Rose Smith age 87 whose home was destroyed by fire last.week at Rome City has purchased the Burnett property and together with Mrs. Trippo who made her home with her has moved into the new dwelling. |

Suffers Frightful Burns.

- Leland K. Thompson is suffering from frightful burns on his hands and will be unable to use them for some time. Wednesday evening the weather being cool he concluded to make a fire in the gate at his home on South Martin street and spying an old auto ‘mobile tire in the basement he placed it I}l the fire place with the result that it.at once burst into flames and rolled out upon the floor. Mr. Thompson grabbed the burning mass and rushed it outodors to save' the house from destruction, but in dding so his hands were horribly scared. Meets With Mishap.

' While driving into Ligonier Friday morning a farmer from near Wolf Lake met with an unusual mishap on the Lincoln Highway. The man had 18 fat hogs in a hay rack on the wagon and when the porkers all dashed to one side of the rack and the wagon turned over spilling the animals .out in the roadway. It was: no small task to reload them. e

Where Paving is Needed.

The ¢hemical fire truck of Mentone was destroyed by fire Wednesday, when jit was driven to a fire near the town. The truck mired so closé to the burning barn that it was impos: sible to move it and as a result it was practically destroyed. The loss -of the barn is estimated at $4,000.
